Argentine Olympic roster stocked full of NBA players

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina -- NBA players Manu Ginobili, Fabricio Oberto, Luis Scola, Carlos Delfino and Andres Nocioni have been tabbed for a preliminary 10-man roster to defend Argentina's basketball gold at the Beijing Olympics.

Coach Sergio Hernandez told a news conference Thursday that 12 players will eventually travel to Beijing to defend the title won in Athens, Greece, four years ago.

Returning from the Athens team are Ginobili and Oberto, both with the San Antonio Spurs. But Hernandez left off two members for now from the past Olympic team, Ruben Wolkowyski and Gabriel Fernandez.

Hernandez said he expects Argentina's NBA standouts to lead the roster. He draws on Delfino from the Toronto Raptors, Nocioni from the Chicago Bulls and Scola from the Houston Rockets.

Others rounding out the initial list, which could still see changes, include Antonio Porta of Russian club Spartak and Leonardo Gutierrez of Boca Juniors. Drawn from Spanish clubs were Argentines Pablo Prigioni of Tau Ceramica; Nicolas Gianella of Granada; and Federico Kammerichs of Murcia. Two others are yet to be named.
