Penguins report: Notes, quotes
--Forward Adam Hall was scratched Sunday in Game 2 to make room for forward Max Talbot, who returned from a three game injury-absence. Hall had dressed for eight consecutive games after not playing in Games 1 and 2 of the opening round. He scored a goal and won 44 percent of faceoffs in the playoffs. Other scratches for the Penguins included forwards Jeff Taffe and Kris Beech, defenseman Darryl Sydor and goaltender Dany Sabourin. --Penguins coach Michel Therrien is not pleased with the frequency with which left wing Jarkko Ruutu is being penalized in the playoffs. He was charged for two penalties Sunday -- an unsportsmanlike conduct and diving foul. Ruutu leads the Penguins with 24 penalty minutes. "I want to address it with the supervisor that sees us for the series," Therrien said. "As far as I'm concerned, they were tough calls against him." --Winning Game 2 meant more than simply preserving home-ice advantage for the Penguins. History suggests the series is a near-lock to go their way. They are 8-2 all-time in best-of-seven series that they have opened with wins in Games 1 and 2. The two losses stand out, though. The Penguins dropped a 1975 Stanley Cup quarterfinal series against the New York Islanders after leading, 3-0. They also fell to the Flyers in a 2000 Eastern Conference semifinal after winning Games 1 and 2 in Philadelphia. QUOTE TO NOTE Copyright (C) 2008 The Sports Xchange. All Rights Reserved.
