Rangers report: Notes, quotes
--C Chris Drury was gashed under the left eye by an un-penalized Ryan Malone high stick early in the second period. When Drury clipped Malone on the nose late in regulation, he was assessed a double-minor. --The Rangers failed on four power play attempts Sunday and wound up 3-for-25 in the series, with one coming into an empty net. In contrast, Pittsburgh scored its first three game-winners on the power play and went 5-for-24 in the series. --Rangers coach Tom Renney revealed afterward that centers Scott Gomez and Chris Drury played with torn rib cage cartilage. Gomez suffered his injury late in the regular season. Drury suffered his in Game 3. --The Rangers' goals in Game 5 were both scored by two rookies. C Lauri Korpikoski was making his NHL playoffs debut. LW Nigel Dawes, who scored the other goal, had made his playoffs debut a year ago in the game that eliminated the Rangers from the 2007 playoffs. --"It's hard to swallow," Rangers coach Tom Renney said. "It's as simple as that. We wanted to keep playing and we thought we were starting to play our best hockey, at least in the playoffs." QUOTE TO NOTE Copyright (C) 2008 The Sports Xchange.
