Islanders general manager Garth Snow is taking his time and talking to men of various experience levels in searching for Ted Nolan's replacement as head coach.

Since Nolan was axed on July 14, ostensibly for not being on board with the franchise's stated youth movement, Snow reportedly has interviewed at least five candidates. Those range from Bob Hartley and John Tortorella, who won Stanley Cup titles with Colorado and Tampa Bay, respectively, to veteran NHL coach Paul Maurice.

Former Bruins coach Mike Sullivan, who was an assistant to Tortorella last season with the Lightning, and AHL Providence coach Scott Gordon also were on Long Island in late July to meet with Snow.

According to Newsday, former St. Louis and Colorado coach Joel Quenneville also declined an invitation by Snow to interview for the vacancy.

Ill admit im not a diehard hockey fan, but the reason is because the Islanders have never really given me any reason to watch. Every season I get excited, watch the first month, and realize that we just dont have the resources and the talent to compete- Its time just put a bunch of money into the organization, build a winner, and regain ...(more)

Just received email alert that New York Islanders and Coach Ted Nolan part ways due to philisophical differences.  Who will the next coach be? and does Snow know what he is doing?

...because it worked out so well when he ran the Rangers.  Seriously though, if you guys can get Tortorella, it's an upgrade.  But let's be honest.  Ted Nolan was not the problem.  Signing a mediocre goaltender to a 51 year deal is the problem.  Making the backup goalie th General Manager with no experience is the ...(more)

Don't get me wrong guys, I am a huge Islanders fan and I am happy with the two signings we made of Mark Streit and Doug Weight. But i am not happy, and probably pissed off too when I read in Newsday today that we won't spend anymore money. That is completely stupid. I un ...(more)
