--Martin Brodeur, winner of the Vezina Trophy three of the last four years, was named one of the three finalists for the award for the eighth time. He joined Henrik Lundqvist of the Rangers and Evgeni Nabokov of San Jose as the finalists.

--Consistency? Zach Parise, who was playing for Team USA in the World Championships, went from 31-31-62 last season to 32-33-65 in 2007-08.

--The Devils will have the 21st pick in the first round of the NHL draft in June.

--Former Devils coach Pat Burns, who has battled cancer for the past four years, was working as an assistant coach for Team Canada at the World Championships and his name continues to surface for NHL job openings.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"I don't want to talk about Sean Avery. Our season is over. He is still playing. That's all anybody wanted to talk about for 10 days. I'm tired of talking about him." -- Devils coach Brent Sutter, on the Rangers' pest after New York eliminated New Jersey from the playoffs.

I mentioned this a few months back, but with the new season nearing, I figure now is a good time to ask again. His cap hit is only 250k less than gionta's but we do get a decent defenseman, one worthy of being an everyday threat. Last year he was injured but in 06/07 he put up 12 goa ...(more)
