The Bruins said goodbye to an old friend in one of the more anti-climatic moves any team has made during the offseason.
It had been speculated for months that Glen Murray and his $4.15 million contract for next season would be bought out, saving the Bruins $2,766,667 on their payroll, the reduction allowing newly re-signed defenseman Dennis Wideman to fit under the cap. Wideman, who was set for an arbitration hearing, signed a three-year contract worth $15.5 million -- the going rate for a decent defenseman who can move the puck.
Parting with Murray was just a sign of the times.
"There comes a time in a system when you have to make a decision based on cap flexibility versus the state of the player, and this was one of those decisions," said general manager Peter Chiarelli. "A hard decision, but one we had to make."
With the solidifying of the Wideman situation and the departure of Murray, who made it through waivers and thus became an unrestricted free agent, the roster appeared set for the opening of training camp. Remember, the Bruins, who added Michael Ryder via free agency, are getting Patrice Bergeron and Manny Fernandez back, those two players viewed, in many ways, as offseason additions to a roster that came on at the end of the year.
Still, talented center/right wing Phil Kessel's name keeps popping up and you have to wonder if he will be dealt.

So now that Murray is gone i was wondering what the lines would be. Seeing how the first line left wing is up for grabs i was wondering who you guys think will fill the line. The line pairings that i think are going to be starting this year are the following....
I just want to start a one stop thread about everything Bruins!
Just trying to make one thread for those who post here regularly so we don't have to open 10 threads everytime we visit. Especially when a lot of the threads end up talking about the same things. Wouldn't it be easier to just go to the same thread
Talk here about how you feel the Bruins did and are doing this offseason with free agents and trades.
My opinion is that the Bruins have signed just about everybody that needs to be signed before the FA deadline. They still need to sign Metropolit however. The Bruins have made a minor trade to get a young defenseman
Its hasnt been announced yet, however a lot of websites i go to has reported that Wideman has sign with the Bruiins for $3.938 million. Thats a toal of a little over 15 million for the 4 years. The signing leaves the Bruins over the cap by $1.599 Million.
