Red Wings sign best player from Finnish Elite League to one-year contract

 

DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings signed forward Ville Leino to a one-year entry level contract on Saturday.

The 24-year-old played for Jokerit of Finnish Elite League in 2007-08, leading the team in scoring with 77 points (28 goals and 49 assists) in 55 games.

Leino recently received the Oskanen Award, given annually to the league's best player in the regular season. He finished second in league scoring (77 points), second in plus-minus rating (plus-34) and third in goals scored (28).

It is refreshing to see the guys agent talk that he will probably spend some time in the AHL instead of this Brunnstrom crap about which line he will be on, etc. . The first three lines are probably set with Zetterberg, Holmstrom, Datsuk, Franzen, Samuelson, Fillppula, Hudler,Helm and Cleary. Not easy to crack that lineup especially with ...(more)

There goes the Red Wings again gtting another top notch player from over seas/ The young talent the red wings got, mixed with the old talent is making the dominate right now in the playoffs. Keep on getting them young great players and we'll keep winning the cups and bringing them back to hockey town

Its going to be fun to watch how these two guys develop. Im willing to bet Brunstomm is a bust while Leino has a fine career.
