Holmstrom scores both Detroit goals: Red Wings LW Tomas Holmstrom scored twice in Thursday's opener against the Maple Leafs, but his two scores wasn't enough in a 3-2 loss. Holmstrom, who came into the game nursing a foot injury, scored his first goal at 16:28 of the second period on a tip-in. He then added a power-play goal on a wrister at 9:20 into the third. He finished at plus-1 in 18:04 of ice time and took four shots on goal.

Detroit head coach Mike Babcock has elected to keep Holmstrom on the team's top line with Marian Hossa and Pavel Datsyuk for the time being. So far, the move has paid off. Holmstrom likely won't keep up this scoring pace, but he remains a decent No. 4 Fantasy forward.

Holmstrom spent the offeseason dealing with and recovering from sports hernia surgery, but didn't show much rust in the opener. He looks to build off a 2007-08 campaign in which he scored 20 goals and 20 assists in 59 games as he was limited by injuries to his knee, groin and hamstring. The left wing totaled seven multi-point games last season, most recently providing two goals in a shootout win over Washington on Dec. 17.
