Eagles rookies DB Jack Ikegwuonu, LB Joe Mays and OL King Dunlap all agreed to four-year contracts Tuesday. Ikegwuonu, a cornerback and fourth-round pick out of Wisconsin, will likely miss the 2008 season with a right knee injury he sustained while working out for the draft. He was an All-Big Ten selection as a junior before declaring for the draft. Mays, a linebacker and sixth-round pick, played for North Dakota State and had 90 tackles and 2.5 sacks as a senior last season. (Updated 06/18/2008)
In a recent post on the blog Yardbarker.com, Eagles QB Donovan McNabb said his ailing right shoulder is doing OK. In McNabb's words, he said, "Speaking of the Eagles, fans might be happy to know that I'm in Arizona working out with Brian Dawkins. Next week some other players will come out and we'll work together for a few days before training camp opens. I'm feeling great, the shoulder is fine, and I can't wait to get started this season." During a minicamp this offseason, McNabb was shut down from throwing because his shoulder was giving him some discomfort. (Updated 07/14/2008)
Wide receiver DeSean Jackson and the Philadelphia Eagles agreed on a four-year contract Sunday night, leaving only one draft pick unsigned by the team on the eve of training camp. Strong safety Sean Considine will miss the rest of the season after hurting his left shoulder in the Eagles' loss to Dallas on Sunday night. Considine, who became a starter before the midpoint of last season, was placed on injured reserve. Coach Andy Reid was unsure of Considine's future. "I think they are going to be able to either repair it or he'll be able to rehab it and be okay," Reid said. "We'll just have to see down the road how things go with this thing." (Updated 11/07/2007)
According to the Philadelphia Daily News, what was missing from the Eagles' redzone equation last year was production from the TE position, particularly from starter L.J. Smith. Smith was hurt almost the entire season. Hampered by groin and knee injuries, he missed six games, wasn't anywhere close to 100 percent in the other 10 and caught a career-low 22 passes and one touchdown. Smith's value to the Eagles was underscored in February when, just days before he would have become an unrestricted free agent, the team put the franchise player tag on him. Smith is healthy again and eager to prove he is one of the league's better pass-catching tight ends. He had 111 receptions for nearly 1,300 yards and eight touchdowns in '05 and '06 before his injury-plagued season last year. (Updated 05/06/2008)
In his first NFL season, Eagles rookie TE Brent Celek had 16 catches for 178 yards (11.1 avg.) and a touchdown. Celek made four starts filling in for TEs L.J. Smith and Matt Schobel, and wasn't bad. (Updated 02/01/2008)
