Miami Dolphins rookie QB Chad Henne hits wall at final minicamp workout: Sparano: We wanted to...

May 5--DAVIE -- Dolphins rookie quarterback Chad Henne seemed to be working on mental overload as he wrapped up the final practice of the three-day rookie minicamp Sunday.

At one point, he was told to run a lap after blowing an assignment.

"I forgot the snap count," said Henne, the 57th overall draft pick. "I went on one instead of our second count. I deserved it."

Henne said the last time he had received a similar punishment was back in high school for cursing.

After three solid practices, the former Michigan quarterback was overthrowing most of his receivers. It was partly due to having to learn 150 pages of the playbook in four days and then trying to assimilate it on the field with rookie receivers he has never thrown to before.

"It's tough as a quarterback; you have to know what everybody is doing, know your checks, where your progressions are, your footwork," Henne said. "Once I get back here again I'll feel more comfortable and do better."

Left-handed quarterback Willie Copeland, an unsigned free agent out of Valdosta State who had a 138.02 career passer rating, was sharper than Henne on Sunday.

"We threw a lot at [Henne]," coach Tony Sparano said. "We wanted to see exactly how much sticks. He might've struggled just a little bit, but I thought he threw the ball pretty well at times."

Fitting right inVice President of Football Operations Bill Parcells cast a large shadow on the practice field, but most of his conversations with Sparano came later on "upstairs."

"Out here on the field, I am really going a million miles an hour and my interaction with him was minimal," Sparano said. "I think yesterday he kind of yelled at me at one point and said, 'You're starting to sound like somebody else I know.' I think he was referring to himself and that is not a bad thing."

Toribio a local productOf the 15 unsigned rookie free agents, the Dolphins only signed Carson-Newman (Tenn.) defensive tackle Anthony Toribio, who grew up in nearby Opa-locka and attended Miami Central.

"Parcells actually talked to me," Toribio said. "I was like, 'Man, the Big Tuna told me what really got me on this team was my hustle and my conditioning.' That's a pretty big compliment coming from the big guy."
