Battle clears air on absence: Arnaz Battle returned to the 49ers' practice field Monday, blaming the hubbub that surrounded his one-week absence on his "lack of communication," reports the San Jose Mercury News. The team's leading receiver a year ago, Battle mystified coach Mike Nolan last week by failing to show up at the first week of organized team activities. The sessions are voluntary, but Battle failed to notify the 49ers that he would be remaining at his Dallas home to take care of what he described as a personal situation. His absence raised the question of whether Battle was protesting the diminished role he is likely to inherit after the off-season acquisitions of receivers Bryant Johnson and Isaac Bruce. Battle brushed off that theory Monday. Battle was limited in practice but said he will be around for the remaining seven sessions over the next few weeks. (Updated 06/10/2008).

Fantasy Analysis
Battle is jockeying for playing time with Johnson and Bruce as well as Ashley Lelie and others. Look for Battle to be the No. 3 option in San Francisco. He remains a No. 4 Fantasy option in 2008, and hopefully he will grasp Mike Martz's offense enough to be a decent addition off the waiver wire. (Updated 06/10/2008).
