After totaling 11, 10.5 and 13 sacks in his previous three seasons, Panthers DE Julius Peppers notched just 2.5 sacks in 2007. Peppers' 2007 season ended two games early when he was put on Injured Reserve with a sprained MCL in his right knee. He appears healthy and should return to prominence in his new role. Consider him a No. 2 Fantasy DL in IDP leagues in 2008. (Updated 05/05/2008).
DE Julius Peppers, who recorded 2.5 sacks last season, has plenty of reason to be motivated. Peppers, who will cost more than $14 million under the salary cap this season, is in the final year of his contract and is due to hit the free agent market next year. The Panthers have attempted to extend his contact to no avail. If Peppers returns to form this year he could surpass the contract Dwight Freeney received from Indianapolis. It seems unlikely the Panthers would attempt to put the free agent franchise tag on Peppers in 2009 as his salary cap figure would be nearly unmanageable. 07/17/2008
