Vick sentenced to 23 months in prison: Michael Vick was sentenced to 23 months in prison Monday for running a "cruel and inhumane" dogfighting ring and lying about it. Although there is no parole in the federal system, rules governing time off for good behavior could reduce Vick's prison stay by about three months, resulting in a summer 2009 release. Vick has been suspended without pay by the NFL and lost all his lucrative endorsement deals since his summer indictment. The league had no comment Monday on the judge's ruling. After Vick apologized to the court and his family, Hudson told him: "You need to apologize to the millions of young people who looked up to you." "Yes, sir," Vick answered. (Updated 12/10/2007).
Injury Report
Suspension - Suspended indefinitely. Not expected to play until at least 2009 (Updated - 12/10/07)
Fantasy Analysis
At the earliest Vick will resume his football career in 2009, but what team would consider taking on Vick knowing that a public relations nightmare will follow? With his status only pertaining to those Fantasy owners in dynasty/keeper leagues, he shouldn't be expected to make a relevant impact in the NFL again anytime soon, so if you're going to hang on to him, make sure it won't cost you much, depending on your league's specific rules. QB Michael Vick's Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing didn't come as a surprise to the Falcons or other creditors. Not because they believe Vick, who is serving a 23-month sentence in Leavenworth prison on dogfighting charges, is broke; but because it is a fairly common practice to seek financial protection when steady income flow ceases or is disrupted. The Falcons are the second-largest creditor Vick is seeking protection from, owing them $3.75 million in bonus money based on a spring court ruling. There is a good chance that Atlanta won't see all, and possibly any, of its due cash. If that were to happen, the Falcons would lose anticipated credit under the salary cap. The main reason the team tried to recoup nearly $20 million in bonus money -- the $3.75 million was all they were ruled eligible for per the collective bargaining agreement -- was to gain cap credit. If the court rules Vick unable to pay the Falcons or reduces his debt, the Falcons will be burned again by Vick's $130 million contract -- and its structure. 07/12/2008
