Cards GM: Expect Edge back: The East Valley Tribune reports that even with a salary-cap number of $6.75 million, Cardinals GM Rod Graves expects RB Edgerrin James to remain with the team in 2008. The team could cut $5 million off their books by releasing James. When asked if the team might trade or release James, Graves said, "We haven't considered that. James had 324 carries for 1,222 yards (3.8 avg.) and seven rushing touchdowns in 2007, his fifth straight year with at least 1,100 rushing yards and at least six scores. James added 204 receiving yards on 24 catches. He had three 100-yard rush games. He started 2007 red hot, scoring four of his seven TDs in his first six games, then slowed down and ended on a sour note through most of December until Week 17. James has missed one game in his last four seasons but is clearly more of a battering ram than a versatile speedster at this stage of his career. Our research finds that when a running back passes eight full seasons of work (or about 2,600 carries), his skills deteriorate. James will be 30 at the start of next season and has well over eight years under his belt. Moreover, we've heard rumblings that James won't have the same role in Arizona, if any, next season.
