Overview
Small in comparison to most NFL nose tackles, Cohen plays much larger than the tape measure indicates. It is almost unheard of for a tackle to get 14 tackles for loss, but he managed just that in his second-team All-MAC junior season.
It's possible a NFL team may ask him to play power end or the three-technique due to his size. His 32 reps at 225 pounds and 4.95-second 40-yard dash at his Pro Day really impressed teams.
Analysis
Positives: Plays with good leverage, keeping his pad level low and square ... Able to move with a block and keep his eyes in the backfield, then use his hands to rip off and make the play ... Also uses those eyes to stay aware of screens and misdirection ... Has the strength to push his lineman into the pocket, but typically rips off his man or slides to either side ... Closes quicker than you'd expect with a thick body.
Negatives: Short, a bit large through the middle and not well-developed in the lower body ... Larger, better linemen can knock him backwards and he may struggle against double teams at the next level ... Will not get to the quarterback on his initial pass rush very often, getting occasional sacks with second effort ... Not especially quick off the snap, possibly because he's asked to play the nose.
Career Notes
In 48 career games, Cohen was in on 144 tackles, including 61 solo. He also had 39 ½ tackles for lost, fourth-most in school history, and 5 ½ sacks ... Started the final 37 games of his career ... Two-time second-team All-MAC honors.
High School
Earned all-state, all-area and all-region honors ... A member of the Spartanburg Herald-Journal Fantastic 50 ... Played defensive line for coach Doc Davis ... Collected 107 tackles, 28 quarterback hurries and 6.0 sacks during his senior season ... Helped the Vikings win the state championship during sophomore season ... Participated in the Service Learning Program ... A four-year letterman in track.
