I made the Browns +7 and, while I have them tied for the worst rating in the NFL, the positive about them is a defense that allows only 337 ypg. I'm looking for something similar to last week when the Browns lost 12-9 to the Titans and I wouldn't be surprised if the Browns won their first game of the season.
Minnesota has allowed only 57 points over the past four games, a period in which Cleveland has put up 47. The Browns have a revolving door at QB because the guy who gets stuck inside it continues to bomb. Also, Browns players have sent out signals that they have dreaded the overseas setting for this game. The Vikings might not be thrilled, but they are eager to enter a bye week on a four-game win streak. London games tend to be one-sided; this year’s margins are 37, 20 and 23. Another lopsided one looms.
Browns No. 1 overall pick Myles Garrett (concussion) is out, and CB Jason McCourty (ankle) is iffy at best. Minnesota wideout Stefon Diggs, on the other hand, went through a full practice Thursday after missing last week with a groin injury. I see this line hitting 10, so jumping on now. Look for Minnesota to force multiple turnovers from DeShone Kizer and cover.
Eleven of the Browns' last 15 games have gone Under. Rookie QB DeShone Kizer, who has been yanked from two games, is back behind center -- with surely a short leash, in view of his dead-last passer rating (47.8) and completion percentage (52). OT Joe Thomas (triceps), the marathon man who had played an astonishing 10,363 snaps on a high level until last Sunday, will sit out the rest of the season. So whatever contributions to pushing the score into Over territory likely will come from Minnesota. Though mainly known for their defense, the Vikes are not half-bad with the ball. They rank 11th in yards per play and 12th in yards per game. RB Latavius Murray tamped down concerns over the absence of injured rookie Dalvin Cook by rushing for 113 yards Sunday against the stout Ravens. WR Stefon Diggs (groin), idled for two weeks, could return, which can only help the offense. At least the Browns have a confident kicker, rookie Zane Gonzalez, who nailed all three field-goal attempts Sunday. Some scattered threes will pad the scoring total. London?s fickle weather should cooperate, with clear skies and 50 degrees ? Fahrenheit, not the British-preferred Celsius ? forecasted. All of which makes 40 points scored doable.
