Jazz report: Getting inside
After giving back a 12-point fourth-quarter lead against the Lakers, the Jazz were able to step back from the brink and come through with an overtime victory that evened their Western Conference semifinals series 2-2. The Jazz came home trailing 2-0, but still have to win at Staples Center in order to advance. They are 3-16 all-time against the Lakers in the building and 0-4 this season, with four double-digit losses including Games 1 and 2 of this series. "We're definitely confident now," Deron Williams said, "but we've still got to prove we can win one on the road." The key for the Jazz will be getting off to a fast start. They fell behind by double digits in the first half of both games against the Lakers and could get no closer than four or five points in the fourth quarter before falling. The Jazz also will pay careful attention to the reports out of Los Angeles about the condition of Kobe Bryant's back. Bryant was bothered by back spasms in Sunday's game and went 2-for-13 in the fourth quarter and overtime. Bryant said he would play Wednesday but acknowledged that a back injury would hurt his ability to run and cut. He stood in the interview room -- rather than sit -- after the game and he would lay on the floor when he came to the bench. JAZZ 123, LAKERS 115 (OT): The Jazz had played only one overtime game all season before Sunday but were able to regroup after giving back a 12-point lead in the last 4:21 and outscored the Lakers 15-7 in overtime. Mehmet Okur hit two jumpers and Andrei Kirilenko dunked as part of a three-point play with 35.5 seconds left. The Jazz were able to close out the victory as Kyle Korver and Deron Williams went 8-for-8 at the foul line. The Lakers didn't score in the first 3:39 of overtime as Bryant missed four shots before finally driving for a lay-up. Bryant finished with 33 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds but went 13-for-33 from the field and 1-for-10 from three-point range. Copyright (C) 2008 The Sports Xchange. All Rights Reserved.
