The Jazz have been in this position before. They trail 3-2 in the series with the Lakers but faced the same situation in the first round against Houston last year.

The Jazz had suffered a similarly agonizing 96-92 loss to the Rockets in Game 5 last year but returned home to win Game 6 and then eliminated Houston with a road victory in Game 7. The Jazz are 41-5 at home this season, having beaten the Lakers twice in this series.

"We definitely played a better game this game than the other two," point guard Deron Williams said. "We battled to the end. It's promising. We feel like we can win here. We just got to go back home right now and take care of business at home."

The Jazz never led in Game 5, although they went into the fourth quarter tied 81-81. They tied the score four times in the second half but were unable to push into the lead. They trailed by five with 2:43 remaining.

LAKERS 111, JAZZ 104: The Jazz might not get a better opportunity to win a game at Staples Center than the one they squandered Wednesday night. They couldn't take advantage even with Kobe Bryant taking just 10 shots in the game.

After trailing by 13 and 14 points at halftime of Games 1 and 2 in Los Angeles, the Jazz were down just seven Wednesday. Jazz coach Jerry Sloan was upset afterward about the 42-28 free throw disparity in the game.

In the last two minutes, Lamar Odom dunked off a Kobe Bryant pass and Pau Gasol hit two shots, the second a rebound dunk with 20.5 seconds remaining. Bryant finished with 26 points, seven assists and six rebounds, going 13-for-17 from the line.

"I got a lot out of my back tonight," Bryant said. "I think it was better than I actually thought it was going to be. I was able to spin. I was able to slide defensively, be active, be aggressive."

Yes some of those "home-court" calls were brutal, particularly in the third quarter when we were trying to make our run, but we had our chances, and just couldn't hit the big shots at the end yet again. Each game on the road has really been just a matter of hitting out shots down the stretch, whcih we have failed to do.

My patience with Okur is running thin. His inab ...(more)

OK ladies and Gentlemen.  It is time for second round predictions.  The Lakers are a tough draw, well rested, and employ the league MVP.

I am going homer on this one and picking the Jazz in six.  I think we came up with a good formula to slow down a ...(more)

I think it's WWF, the fake,  dressed up, juiced up wrestlers, entertaining  all those folks with thick souther accents. That is what the playoffs look like to me. Collins (TNT) keeps a running account of the calls, and the total foul shots for both teams. Making sure the public," that has complained" about the disparity, knows how close it's being called. Then when the ...(more)

Been in Mexico for a week but read the comments. Gotta take it when it's deserved. DO you know how hard it is to find a bar that has the game on in Cabo ? I actually thought when LA sent it to OT that we were looking at 3-1, but your boys proved better and props to them. Tonights game I feel goes either way. Good luck. (does anyone feel that Turiaf tried to hurt Price ?)

Big night of first.
Kobe's first MVP,
Jazz's first game 2 loss to LA
LA's first 2-0 over the jazz
Just an all around azzwhoopin. Also, those last 3 3's by DERROIN (Whatever his name is) made it closer then it looked. 9 points in the last  1 1/2 minutes and you still lost by 10. Don't get the hop

You've earned it.  I don't think Lakers can beat you with a hurt Kobe.   Our time has come.    I think your team can do it vs Hornets or Spurs.

Fellow Jazz fans:  Do you think our team threw off their much talked about road woes by taking the first 2 in Houston, or do you think it will come back to haunt us in the second round?

"We never really felt threatened. "
"In game 3 there are no expectations, no pressure."
"They have to catch up and beat us twice as many games as they have in 2 years."

Derek hit the 3 to save you against GS. What happens tonight ? I think Jazzholes have forgotten  what he did. This game could go either way.....my suggestion is for you Jazzholes not to add any motivation to the fire.
