--The Sonics' future in Seattle remains uncertain. NBA owners voted overwhelmingly approving the team's application to move to Oklahoma City on April 18 in New York. However, the city of Seattle has filed a lawsuit against the Sonics over a specific performance clause in the team's lease with KeyArena that states the team must play all games in the Seattle arena until the lease expires in September 2010.

The Sonics made a $26.5 million offer to buy out the lease in February, but the city rejected the offer, saying it was too low. The trial between the city and the Sonics will be held in federal court in Seattle June 16.

If the city of Seattle wins the suit, the Sonics would have to stay in Seattle until 2010.

Former Sonics owner Howard Schultz also has filed a lawsuit against Sonics chairman Clay Bennett and his Oklahoma City-based ownership group, claiming the ownership group breached a "good faith, best effort" clause in the sales agreement between the two parties that Bennett's group would try to get an arena deal done in Seattle for 12 months after the sale.

Schultz's suit claims recently released e-mails suggest Bennett's group never intended to keep the team in Seattle. A court date has yet to be scheduled for the Schultz lawsuit.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"We've been saying all year our guys have done a good job dealing with the situation, and for the most part -- not 82 times -- but the majority of times, have come and given us a good effort. ... I think they've hung in, in a very difficult year." -- Seattle coach P.J. Carlesimo, about the resilience of his team this season.

Clay Bennett's attorneys apparently are trying to make the case in their legal fight to break a lease at Key Arena that the Sonics' departure from Seattle would have no impact on the city. That the dollars that now go to games at Key Arena would just go to other local entertainment options. This runs TOTALLY counter to every argument the NBA has ever made for building a new arena: that ...(more)

After a couple of weeks of reading everything I could find about Bennett and the purchase of the Sonics, my conclusion is that Bennett is only a small part of the Sonics impending relocation. I will agree that he intended to move the Sonics to OKC. I believe that he knew all along that Seattle would not build a new arena. That is the city of Seattle,s fault. I feel the city knew that the S ...(more)

it was reported that if either the Schultz or cities case wins then OKC was going to be looking into filing a lawsuit against the city of Howard for rights to the team because after the board of governors vote and the lease agreement they reach and all the money they have spent into bringing the NBA into there city..I was seriously wondering if that was true or just overhyped speculation because i ...(more)

Are there any Sonic fans who have connections with Save Our Sonics who can orchestrate some form of protest at this years NBA Finals regardless of where it is so that SOS T-shirts and banners can be passed out or reach out to the fans of the teams in the Finals and get them to chant "YOU SCREWED SEATTLE!!" to David Stern during the trophy presentation. I'd love to make David Stern's expe ...(more)

This whole situation is driving me nuts...Are they coming or aren't they? I do have to say that much of the crap I have read from both sides is rediculous more often than not. Let's summerize what we have learned so far by most people that have posted:

1. Many people from both cities are ignorant and hateful.

2. Many people from both cities assume rather than follow so ...(more)

Listen folks I think the personal attacks have gotten way out of hand on this board.

Look citizens of OKC most of us arent out here to attack you personally. We are attacking the rich and greedy men like Howard Schultz and Clay Bennett who have brought us to this point. Its understandable to be upset at a man like Bennett who openly lied to the citizens of Seattle about his intent to k ...(more)

Ok...I know the title is dramatic. Let me debunk some complaints coming from Seattle.

  1. Complaint: Taxpayers shouldn't pay to fix up an arena for a bunch of millionaires.
  2. Answer: Whoever owns the arena should fix it up. The city shouldn't pay to recarpet your dumpy house. The owner shouldn't pay to fix up your sagging arena.
  3. Complaint: ...(more)

Candlestick Park had an alternative configuration to allow for the 49ers to play on Sundays.

The Alamo Dome had an alternative configuration to allow the Spurs to play there.

Safeco Field is perhaps the nicest stadium in the country.

It seems funny that nobody has made an effort to see if it would be plausible to ...(more)

This is a thread for people to recommend names for the new NBA team in OKC.

I like:

  1. Oklahoma City Oilers
  2. Oklahoma City Mustangs
  3. Oklahoma City Gamblers
  4. Oklahoma City Super Sooners! (I think that name is hilarious!)

Just a few ideas I had. Give some suggestions. Please please please...no Arena football sounding n ...(more)
