Magic report: Roster
DRAFT PICK Courtney Lee, G, 6-5, Western Kentucky -- He gives the Magic a shooting guard who actually can hit a mid-range jump shot, something they struggled to find last season. Lee, after four years at Western Kentucky, should be as NBA-ready (maturity wise) as anyone from the draft. Whether he is good enough is another question because 21 teams passed on him before the Magic made the selection. FREE AGENT FOCUS PLAYER NOTES --C Dwight Howard is expected to be the starting center for the USA Basketball team at the Olympic Games next month, despite the hairline fracture of his sternum that kept him out of the recent mini-camp in Las Vegas. Howard is the only true center on the USA roster, but he sustained the injury in the playoffs against Detroit, and he wanted at least six weeks for it to heal before playing any contact basketball. --G Courtney Lee, the Magic's first-round draft pick, looked good during the NBA Summer League in Orlando. Lee reached double-figures in scoring in each of his first three games, and he was aggressive defensively. --G J.J. Redick said recently that he doesn't expect to be back in Orlando, expecting a trade before training camp begins. The Magic could use him, or Keith Bogans, or both, in a trade to find a backup point guard, a position held last season by Carlos Arroyo. Copyright (C) 2008 The Sports Xchange. All Rights Reserved.
