Ginobili to miss at least a month: The San Antonio Express-News reports that Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich expects Manu Ginobili to be sidelined until mid-December at the earliest as he recovers from arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle. Ginobili underwent the procedure on September 3 to correct a posterior impingement of his left ankle. The reigning NBA Sixth Man of the Year originally suffered the injury in the Spurs' playoff series with the Phoenix Suns. After a rehabilitation program, Ginobili was cleared to play in the 2008 Olympics. He then aggravated the injury in a semifinal loss to the United States during the Olympics and did not play when Argentina downed Lithuania in the bronze medal game.

Fantasy Analysis

The 31-year-old Argentine star averaged 19.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 74 games for the Spurs last season -- all career highs for Ginobili, who is entering his seventh year in the league. We had him tabbed as a player with bust potential heading into the season because of the concern over his ankle, but this development could actually end up making him a steal somewhere in the middle rounds. His numbers from a year ago were going to make him a very risky early-round pick due to his aggressive style of play making him almost a lock to miss games every year.

Ginobili's offseason ankle surgery will cause him to miss all of November and as many as 25 games, according to the San Antonio Express-News. (Updated 09/29/2008)

Advice

The injury hobbled Ginobili during the NBA playoffs, particularly during the Western Conference finals against the Los Angeles Lakers. He was cleared to play for Argentina in the Olympics, but re-aggravated the injury during a game against the United States.
