--The right side of the Padres' infield is hot. 1B Adrian Gonzalez has hit .339 (20-for-59) with four doubles, five homers and 15 RBIs over his last 14 games and 2B Tadahito Iguchi hit .352 (19-for-54) over 13 games with three doubles, a triple and a homer for seven RBI.
--On his fifth attempt, Greg Maddux Saturday night became the ninth pitcher in major league history to win 350 games, leaving him four wins behind No. 8 Roger Clemens. Had it not been for his own throwing error -- his first in 366 days -- Maddux would have blanked the Rockies on three hits over six innings. He needed only 68 pitches, 45 of which were strikes.
--C Luke Carlin caught the historic win in his major league debut, finishing with being on the receiving end of Trevor Hoffman's 530th save. "It was a special night," said Carlin. "As Trevor was coming in, I turned to (plate umpire) Ed Hickox and said: 'Can you believe I caught two Hall of Famers in my first game.'"
--SS Khalil Greene was hitting .217 with just one RBI in his first 17 games at Petco Park this season when he hit a two-run homer in the sixth off Rockies starter Greg Reynolds. His three RBI at home now equals the pitching staff's total.
--CF Jim Edmonds, 37, a four-time All-Star and eight-time Gold Glove winner was released by the Padres Friday. The Padres will have to eat between $4.5 and $4.7 million of Edmonds' contract. Edmonds was hitting .178 (16-for-90).
--Before hitting a two-run homer Sunday, SS Khalil Greene had one RBI in his first 17 games at Petco Park this season.
--The three games against the Rockies over the weekend were the Padres only home games in a three-week span that will see them play 16 of 19 on the road.
--The Padres had 11 hits Sunday, marking the first time since the 22-inning game of April 17 -- and the first time in a nine-inning game since April 5 (11 games ago) -- that the Padres have had double-digit hits at Petco Park.
BY THE NUMBERS 3 -- Catchers who have made their major league debuts catching Greg Maddux -- Luke Carlin (last night), Rick Wilkins (Cubs, June 6, 1991) and Fernando Lunar (Braves, May 8, 2000).
4 -- Stolen bases in a game for the Padres for the first time since last Aug. 10 in Cincinnati . . . and first time at home since May 8, 2006.
5 -- Stolen bases by the Padres over the weekend after they had swiped only eight in the season's first 36 games.
8 -- Straight series (and 18 of 22 games) lost by the Padres before they won two straight (for the first time since April 13-15) to take the series from the Rockies.
QUOTE TO NOTE "It was good to see. We think that is in there. The players think that, so does the staff. That's more how we expect to play baseball." -- Padres manager Bud Black after the back-to-back wins over the Rockies.

By Wayne Lin. The All-Star game is finished and now the second half of the season starts off with formidable matchups, and players are being called up from Triple A in hopes to make a playoff run. The second half of the season promises to be a hot one with developing story lines in the AL and NL East...
I just read the San Diego Padres midseason report. It really puts in perspective what we need to be working on. And guess what? ITS NOT HITTING! Although it could use some work we really need to put our pitching back on the map.
With 3 weeks left until the midseason trade deadline, who do we need to get rid of first to hopefully get some spark going? Keep in mind who's really available to pick up:
