--LHP Franklin Morales, in his first start since being sent down, combined with three relievers for Class AAA Colorado Springs to pitch the first no-hitter in Security Service Field on Sunday. But he also walked six batters and gave up a run in his five innings of work in the 5-1 SkySox victory. "He has the stuff, but the command is the big issue," SkySox manager Tom Runnells said. "When he is around the plate he is unhittable, but he gets himself in trouble."
--LHP Mark Redman, 34, who was with four organizations last season and finally caught on with the Rockies, indicated to manager Clint Hurdle that he will accept an option to Class AAA Colorado Springs. Redman was replaced on the Rockies big-league roster by rookie Greg Reynolds, who made his big-league debut Sunday. "He needs to be in a routine and pitch every fifth day," Hurdle said. "With a rotation in transition it puts him in position to maximize his best role to get back in place and pitcher better." Redman was 2-3 with a 7.84 ERA in seven appearances, six starts. In the six starts, he worked 29 1/3 innings, giving up 29 runs, 27 earned, on 41 hits and 12 walks.
--INF Juan Castro, signed to a minor-league contract after being released by Cincinnati and sent to Class AAA Colorado Springs to get some at-bats before being added to the big-leaguer roster, is on the SkySox disabled list with a strained hamstring suffered in his fifth game with the Sky Sox. He was 6-for-13 at the time of the injury.
--LF Matt Holliday was out of the lineup for the second time this season on Sunday. Combined with a scheduled Monday off, that gives Holliday two full days off. Holliday is 4-for-18 lifetime against Padres starter Chris Young.
--3B Garrett Atkins extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a single to leadoff the seventh. He eventually scored the Rockies lone run.
BY THE NUMBERS 8 -- players from the first round of the 2006 draft that have appeared in the big leagues, with RHP Greg Reynolds, the second pick overall, debuting for the Rockies on Sunday. He joined RHP Luke Hochevar, No. 1 overall to Kansas City, 3B Evan Longoria, third overall to Tampa Bay, RHP Brandon Morrow, fifth overall to Seattle, LHP Andrew Miller, now with Florida, sixth overall to Detroit, RHP Tim Lincecum, 10th overall to San Francisco, RHP Max Scherzer, 11th overall to Arizona, and RHP Ian Kennedy, 21st overall to the Yankees.
QUOTE TO NOTE "It's not like you go to a higher level if you do well here. There's a learning process. And the sixth inning was a learning curve for him," -- Rockies manager Clint Hurdle on RHP Greg Reynolds, who allowed one run the first five innings of his big-league debut on Sunday, then allowed three more in the sixth inning at San Diego.
