--UT Brayan Pena strained the muscles in the middle of his back lifting boxes and shoving furniture around when he moved on last Monday's off day, he believes. Pena has been placed on the 15-day disables list, retroactive to May 5.

--RHP Buddy Carlyle has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 9, with a sprained muscle in the left side of his neck.

--LHP Chuck James was recalled from Class AAA Richmond (Va.) to start Saturday's game against the Pirates, a 5-2 loss. James wasn't hitting his spots, something he'd gotten back to doing at Richmond.

--2B Kelly Johnson's lead-off on base percentage, .372 last season, stands at .325 so far this year.

--RHP John Smoltz could stand to go only 13 days without picking up a baseball. The inflammation in his right biceps and shoulder, which sent him to the 15-day disabled list, has subsided. However, his right trapezius muscle is still sore. That will probably remain true the rest of the season.

BY THE NUMBERS
2,584 -- LHP Tom Glavine's career strikeouts, placing him 24th on the all-time strikeout list. Glavine passed Bob Feller (2,581) and Warren Spahn (2,583) when the notched three strikeouts against the Pirates May 9.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"Amen! Hallelujah!" -- 3B Chipper Jones after the Braves finally won a one-run game, the May 8 5-4 victory over the Padres.

Hey everybody. Welcome to the thread. Tonight, the Atlanta Braves (21-20) take on the Oakland A's (23-20) in the second game of a weekend series from Turner Field in Atlanta, GA. The Braves won the first game 3-2 in comeback fashion, on former Athletic Mark Kotsay' ...(more)

Yes, he's still suspended. But I found this quote mildly interesting.

*on his HGH use*

"It's not what it seems," he said. "It's different, but I really can't comment. I have to just let people think (what they will) and move on, and people will see by the way I play when I come back it was nothing like that. I'm the same player I've always ...(more)

Question #1:  Of you were a pitcher in the NL, how would you pitch to Chipper Jones?   Wow, he hits everything everywhere!!! Wow what a great year he has started.

Question #2:  How many more times will the great sports writers tell us that Glavine pitched for the

Hello again everybody. Welcome to the game thread for the rubber match between the Atlanta Braves (20-19) and the Philadelphia Phillies (22-19). Philadelphia used a mid-game rally to win the first game on Tuesday 5-4 and Atlanta used a barrage of homers off starter ...(more)

Hudson takes the mound against his former team for the first time with a 6-2 record and an ERA of 2.54. You think the A's would like to have him back? With the exception of 2006, this guy has been money since he came here.

Lets get another win vs the AL tonight, boys!!!

(POLL) Simple enough, do you think Chipper Jones can end the season hitting .400 thus being the first player since Ted Williams to have a season of .400 ball?  Personally I doubt he will be hitting .400 by the all star break but I was curious as to what everyone else thinks...

Yes!!! I get a game on Peachtree TV tonight. First game in two weeks on that stupid channel. Lucky we got to watch Cop Land the other night. God!!! I live in Canada and without a satellite dish all I got is Peachtree. We better win at least 2 of the 3 this weekend, I think it's about time we move up to the top of the division. I think once Smoltz comes back to the bullpen and ...(more)

We have the worst road record in baseball but one of the best home records. Why can't we win on the road?  I know that it is easier to win at home but 6-16 away from Atlanta and the fact that we can't beat the Nats anywhere has me concerned. There will be no way we can compete for a crown if we can't leave the friendly confines of home and still atleast play at .450 or .500 baseball.

Ok,  We're officially 1/4 of the way through the season - well at the middle of the 5th inning tonight I guess will be officially 1/4 but ...

So time for a bit of an evaluation I believe.  First a quick positive / negative area, then some grades.  I'll start with the negatives and get them out of the way.

Negatives for this season so far ...(more)
