The Sabathia/Sheets/Parra triad makes the Brewers quite intimidating in any short series ... Between them, Rickie Weeks and recent acquisition Ray Durham cover roughly 22 percent of the ground of an average major-league second baseman ... The schedule the rest of the way might be the easiest of any contender in either league ... Do they have enough prospects left to add a needed reliever?

A great move picking up a co-ace in CC Sabathia, even if it was immediately countered by the Cubs. Losing Matt LaPorta's potential MVP-caliber bat can prove costly, but the Rays should take a lesson here in how to strike while the iron is hot. Losing franchises just have to go for it like this. Much props.

Despite winning just once in their past five, they still have the third-best record in the NL ... and their division. Other than this series in Arizona, they have a real soft schedule from now until the All-Star break. An up-and-down first half will wind up looking A-OK after all.

Prince Fielder's revival is part of their resurgence, sure, but with Salomon Torres stabilizing the ninth inning, they are no longer giving away games late. We were far too quick to bury them as a lost cause this season.

We would feel a lot better about their chances if Prince Fielder was his 2007 self. Their resurgence has coincided with his own, but he and the Brewers still have a ways to go.

We were ready to bury them, but they have been playing better of late -- despite dropping a series in Colorado. Bill Hall's benching and Russell Branyan's power surge could lead to Hall getting his trade wish granted.

We were all sorts of ready to bury them as a non-factor this season. That was obviously premature. Salomon Torres has brought some much-needed stability to the closer's role. He has a good chance at keeping it stable over the long haul.

A homestand is supposed to inject life, but it won't come easy against the Braves, Astros and Diamondbacks. They just don't seem to have the horses to compete this season. A .500 finish can be considered a moral victory.

We see the reason for moving Ryan Braun's suspect defense to left field to compete this season. But was it the right move big picture/long term? If they don't finish .500 and 2007 No. 1 pick Matt LaPorta (.304, 11 HR, .415 OBP, .602 SLUG in Double-A) proves worthy of a corner-outfield spot in the next calendar year, they will regret not making the mashing Braun a serviceable third baseman.

They have finally made a move with the closer spot and Ryan Braun has gotten scorching hot. It took them a bit too long -- especially since the Cubs, Cardinals and Astros just look like better teams right now.
