Due to rainouts and better starting pitching by the Mets, Joe Smith has worked just 1/3 of an inning in the past week. With Duaner Sanchez now the setup man and Aaron Heilman buried in the middle, Smith has become more of a situational right-hander.

Calf - Out until at least May 23-25 series at Colorado (Updated - 5/22/08)
    News
Mets OF Moises Alou left Wednesday night's game against the Atlanta Braves in the third inning with a strained left calf. Alou grounded out to third base in the second inning, his only at-bat of the game. Alou walked slowly off the field after Omar Infante struck out to lead off the third inning. Marlon Anderson replaced Alou in left field. He will fly back to New York for an MRI on Thursday. "It's been bothering me three or four days," Alou said. "To me, one of the most embarrassing things is to walk off the field like I did. But I could hardly move."

    News
Mets SP Mike Pelfrey had Moises Alou to blame for Wednesday's 11-4 loss to the Braves. Pelfrey was cruising for 2 1/3 innings before Alou stopped play and removed himself from the game because of a leg cramp. After the delay of a few minutes, Pelfrey fell apart. It started with a two-out walk of Chipper Jones, which was followed by a Mark Teixeira infield single. Brian McCann then doubled to deep right and scored both runners. Jeff Francoeur followed with a RBI triple and Pelfrey finally escaped the jam by retiring Kelly Johnson on a foul out. However, Atlanta took a 3-1 lead and wouldn't look back. Pelfrey allowed three more runs in the fifth and was run from the game. He allowed eight hits, six runs and three walks while striking out two in four-plus innings.
