The Boston Herald reports that Clay Buchholz is going to be placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday because of a broken fingernail on his right middle finger. OF Jonathan Van Avery was called up from Triple-A Pawtucket for Wednesday's matinee at Baltimore.

Red Sox SP Daisuke Matsuzaka held the visiting Brewers to a pair of unearned runs pitching into the seventh inning in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday, upping his record to 7-0. He gave up seven hits over 6 2/3 innings and tied the Angels' Joe Saunders for the AL lead in wins, striking out six and walking two. "He got into a rhythm as the game progressed," Boston manager Terry Francona said. The Red Sox have won Matsuzaka's last 11 starts.
