Rays SP James Shields could not outduel Yankees SP Mike Mussina during a 2-1 loss Wednesday. Robinson Cano's RBI single in the fourth inning snapped a scoreless tie and Bobby Abreu's pop fly down the left-field line in the fifth dropped for a run-scoring double that made it 2-0. That was all the support Mussina would need to get his 109th win as a Yankee. Shields allowed six hits, two runs and two walks in 7 1/3 innings. He struck out six. (Updated 05/14/2008).

Fantasy Analysis
Shields is one of Tampa Bay's top young pitchers and big part of the team's climb to the top of the standings. He was coming off a one-hit shutout of the Los Angeles Angels, but didn't experience as much success Wednesday. Shields fell to 0-6 in seven career starts against the Yankees, who also beat him 2-0 in New York on April 6. It's not like he is pitching awful against New York, but is just running into some tough competition. Regardless, Shields has allowed two or fewer runs in four of his last five starts and remains a high-end Fantasy SP. His next scheduled start is for Monday at Oakland. He is on track to be a two-start pitcher Fantasy Week 8 (May 19-25) with his second start coming against the Orioles. He is 1-0 with a 2.77 ERA in two starts against Baltimore this season. Shields pitched a one-hitter and Evan Longoria's two-run, ninth-inning homer gave the surging Rays a 2-0 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Angels on Friday night. (Updated 05/10/2008)
Advice
Shields limited the Angels to Brandon Wood's one-out single in the third and retired the last 17 batters he faced after hitting Erick Aybar with a pitch in the fourth. The right-hander rebounded from the second-shortest outing of his career for his second shutout in his past three starts. He improved to 4-2 with a 3.14 ERA in eight starts this season.
