The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the reason the Cubs sent down pitcher Sean Marshall to Triple-A Iowa was to stretch him out for a return to a starting role. "We want [Marshall] to start and stretch him out," manager Lou Piniella said Friday after Marshall was sent to Triple-A Iowa and lefty reliever Scott Eyre was activated from the disabled list. "He'll stay a starter. We pitched him out of the bullpen out of necessity coming out of spring training [because of Eyre's inflamed elbow]." (Updated 05/10/2008).

Fantasy Analysis
Marshall, called up from Iowa on April 9, was 0-0 with a save and 4.15 ERA in 13 relief appearances. He was 7-8 and made 19 starts for the Cubs last season. There is still no official timetable as to when he'll return to the rotation, but Fantasy owners should look to monitor his progress in Triple-A. He'll be worth scooping up in NL-only play when he's ready to resume starting at the big league level. (Updated 05/10/2008).
