Fantasy Analysis
Bergmann struggled mightily in his first stint up with the Nationals earlier this season, but won the International League's pitcher of the month award earlier in May, so he obviously found something to work in Triple-A and continued his fine play into Thursday's start. Don't get too excited about this one outing, however, and you might want to wait at least one more start before thinking about adding him in NL-only formats. In Fantasy Week 8 (May 19-25), Bergmann will get one start, against the Phillies at home on Tuesday. He could get another start on Sunday if someone is skipped on the Nationals' off day Thursday, but that's very doubtful. Last year against the Phillies, Bergmann was 0-1 with a 4.18 ERA in five starts. (Updated 05/15/2008).
In his first start in a month, Bergmann allowed three hits and struck out nine in seven innings of the Nationals' 1-0 win over the Mets Thursday. (Updated 05/16/2008)
Advice
Bergmann, who was called up from Triple-A Columbus before the game, earned his first victory since September. The right-hander was 1-1 with a 11.68 ERA in his first three games of the season.
