Ray not expected back this season: After Orioles RP Chris Ray got back on a mound to throw his first simulated game since undergoing Tommy John surgery, manager Dave Trembley said he didn't expect him to return in 2008, according to MLB.com. "He is not close to pitching in any kind of games whatsoever," said Trembley when asked about Ray's progress. "He will just continue his throwing program. He has not been slowed down." (Updated 07/04/2008).
Injury Report
Elbow - 15-day DL. Out for the season (Updated - 7/8/08)
Fantasy Analysis
Ray still wants to return in August or September, but the Orioles won't hear it. "That's Chris Ray's expectation," Trembley said. "That's never been our expectation. My expectation is to take a conservative action. If he were to join the club before this season was over, that's a bonus. But I'm not particularly counting on that. I would take more of a conservative approach -- if this was me -- and gear him more toward pitching in Instructional League and getting (himself) ready for Spring Training." George Sherrill has taken hold of the closer role with Ray sidelined, so you don't have much reason to care in Fantasy if he returns this season. Stash him only if you have empty DL slots in deeper AL-only leagues. (Updated 07/04/2008).
