Red-hot Gonzalez gets day off: Edgar Gonzalez, who took a .328 batting average into Wednesday's game against Cincinnati at Great American Ball Park, got a rare day off in the last game of a three-game series, according to MLB.com. Gonzalez, who has had six consecutive multi-hit games and seven in his last eight games, was replaced by Luis Rodriguez. "Edgar plays hard and he's played six days in a row," manager Bud Black said. "You've got to use the entire roster." (Updated 07/23/2008).

Fantasy Analysis
Gonzalez didn't create a fuss about not being in the starting lineup, even after collecting seven hits in his last 10 at-bats, including two three-hit games against Cincinnati during this series. Gonzalez, who was recalled from Triple-A Portland on May 12, leads all rookies in the National League in batting average. He'll be right back in the lineup for the Padres' next game and is not a player that should only be owned in nine percent of leagues. Don't worry about his extended job security, which he's dealing with by hitting the way he is anyway, just use him while he's this hot for his batting average alone. (Updated 07/23/2008).
