After Ryan Church's slide into Yunel Escobar, I was mostly sad the guy got injured. Granted his slide was no where near the base, and it was his own fault, but it still sucked he got hurt. Now Scott Schoenweiss (spelling?) threw at Chipper Jones, and he had to leave the game. While the pitch can probably be debated whether it was intentional or not...I personally believe it was on purpose. I honestly think that was messed up to do in the situation. Going after a player is messed up! Nothing sportsman like about it. Don't be so pissed your team is cold, and this guy is hot. There have been Braves fans talking about taking out David Wright. I think that is still messed up...whether the Mets started it, or not.
I do not want this becoming a Red Sox and Yankees type of hatred between the teams, but I guarantee if the Mets keep this stuff up..it'll happen.
And on a side note: I personally do believe Ryan Church deserves a suspension for the slide. He was not trying to take Excobar out supposedly...but the slide was really late...really high and not on line for the base. Slides like that happen a lot, and someone got really injured. Something has to be done. I hope Ryan Church has a saf recovery, and gets back quick...then serve a suspension. Just not injured. Many of you will know I try to be understanding toward the mets..but come on...taking out our two hottest hitters in two straight days...

I could see where you're coming from if this was a common thing, but it's not like Braves hitters are getting pegged all the time, and simply saying that it's because the Mets are losing doesn't really seem valid. Although you can never be sure, I guess.
Btw if Ryan Church was trying to do anything it would have been to make it harder to throw the guy out at first, not hurt Yunel Escobar.

As for the slide at second...I honestly don't think Ryan Church was trying to hurt Yunel Escobar. Do I think he was trying to knock him down? I do. That was his second time sliding high into second that game. There are a ton of players in the MLB who do it...I'm sure there are Braves players who do it also...but the MLB really needs to step up about it. Two guys got hurt here. As for the ball to Chipper Jones....if it was to injure, it would've been higher. That doesn't mean I'm not pissed about it...obviously I am. But I don't think the intent was there either. But if one more Braves player gets hurt....I would have to think something was up...then I would be calling for Johan Santana's head lol.

If this indeed is the case, then it's the middle infielder's job to put one in his chops! I don't want to see a guy get hurt, but if you are gonna continuously slide high and risk injuring the opposition then you should expect to take a throw in the face. I bet that would make him get down when sliding into second!
As far as Chipper getting hit on purpose.....I don't know. But with all the frustration the Mets players were showing, it wouldn't surprise me.

Escobar came farther off the bag than is customary and Church didn't expect him to be there, it was more of an unfortunate event than anything. He didn't really have a chance to get down. A suspension, you are joking right?

By the way, he was still in line to touch the bag with his hand, which makes it a legal play.

I agree, it was legal, I think Church just got caught kind of in between do I want to get out of the way or take a hard slide to break up the double play...sometimes you intend one thing and another takes place....the play looked ok to me, no suspensions, lets just move on....btw, great play by Escobar to touch the bag and get that much on the throw...kudos! Notice I said 'touch' the bag, since most times they don't even come close..lol

i don't think chipper was hit intetionally, people in baseball have too much respect for him. but i do think that wright should have been beamed the next inning just in case.
as far as the slide, i don't see anything wrong with it, you are suppose to take the infielder out on that play. escobar is partially at fault, had he simply lowered his knee and arm angle church would have had no choice but to get down a lot sooner, instead escobar's body was straight up allowing for church to get in on his body like he should have.
watch someone like visquel make that play and you will see what i am talking about.
who cares about the Mets, they stink. i am sick of hearing how much talent they have. they have three to four guys that can actually play, wright, wagner , santana and for now church, the rest are overpriced and overhyped. peeple actually think reyes is good because he had one good year back in 2006. he stunk last year and is doing the same this year. there are four or five other shortstops in the nl i would rather have, 3 in the east alone.

I am so sick of hearing how Reyes is overrated. The guy was the best player in the NL for the first 2+months of the season last year. He is still very young but he is easily a more talented player than the Braves SS.

Chipper has been hot. Way too comfortable at the plate. Bust him up a little bit nothing wrong with it. Thats hardball buddy. Larry is a big boy he can handle it. Church suspended ? are you out of your mind? have you ever played basball bro? I agree it was a horrible slide but a suspension is ridiculous. And as far as throwing at Wright, bring it on. That way maybe they will finally wake up. If i was the Braves i would just let sleeping dogs lie. Why would you rattle a team that has slept through 44 games? Wake us up please!!!!

What do I think about the Mets now?
They are the best team in Major League Baseball!!!! They're just not playing like it right now.
Now on to the play. It was an unfortunate event. The first time it happened I thought Yunel Escobar should have side stepped to make the throw instead of trying to jump over Ryan Church. The last one was totally an accident. Church was trying to break up the double play, but was in line to touch the bag making the play legal. Escobar made a great play by touching the bag and by stepping out further than expected. It was just two players trying to do all they could to help their teams. Unfortunately, they both got hurt.
As for Scott Schoeneweis trying to deliberately hit Chipper Jones, not at all. The pitch broke in and caught Chipper on the shin. The entire Mets staff has had a problem hitting guys this year. The Mets lead MLB in hitting batters, so everyone should be on notice. I don't think the Braves should retaliate, but if they do it's understandable. Hopefully they do it when the Mets have a 10 run lead and David Wright doesn't get injured.

The biggest thing about Ryan Church slide was that was the 2nd time in the game he did that to Yunel Escobar.

Are you kidding me...? Did you see how far Escobar was down the line? Do you expect Church to start his slide half way down the basepath ??? No suspension...clean play, just unfortunate people had to get hurt
