"The New York Times reports that Mets GM Omar Minaya and Pirates GM Neal Huntington declined to comment on the possibility of a trade involving Mets' RF Ryan Church and Pirates' RF Xavier Nady. Nady has been the topic of trade speculation for months."
I personally wouldn't mind that. Church is younger, a big lefty bat with a bit more speed and contact in his bat. Little more consistent.
It's just so hard to want to give up the top RBI man on your team. I wouldn't mind it but, i didn't say I'd like it either.
Thoughts?

I know I'm the idiot optimist on this board but I would love to see this team stay together until the all-star break to give them a chance. We are in position to take 4 of 6 on the road against the two "best teams in the division"
Admittedly, they are growing on me every week.

got to see church alot last year when he was on the nats...they only viewed him as a platoon player- i.e. can't hit lefties. IMO his success this year has more to do with the batters around him---sandwiched betweeen Reyes and Wright than anything else. Does that sound familiar???? think about laroche when he was in atlanta.

The only way this would benefit the Pirates is in the wallet. BTW Church is only one month younger, thats not enough to even mention. If we are going to trade anyone it should be a non productive guy. Bay and Sanchez have been big in the past and there is no reason to believe they won't improve. Laroche, Bautista, Paulino, and JVB are bums that noone would wants.
All in all I think they should stick with what they have for now. If they have to make a trade I'd trade Bay, but only for a proven vet not for a minor leaguer. What they need is for some consistancy at starting pitching and fielding. We've seen what this guys can do individually, but they never get hot collectively.
Go Bucs

I don't really see how a trade of Xavier Nady for Ryan Church does the Pirates any good. If we are trading Nady we need a SS prospect not another outfielder. Bixler is not the long term answer for the Pirates. I think this potential trade is a rumor at most.

That trade makes no sense. If the Pirates are going to move either Nady or Bay why in the world would they move him for another outfielder? Does Huntington want more players to add to the log jam that is the Pirates outfield? We have Nady, Bay, McClouth, McCutchen, Morgan, Pearce....the last thing we need is a platoon outfielder. (I also believe that the Pirates might select Pedro Alvarez in the draft and a move to the outfield could be imminent for Neil Walker, ala Ryan Braun of the Brewers) The outfield postions are the only thing we could honestly say the Pirates are loaded at. Trading either Bay or Nady should most definately garner a stud SS in return.

I think they are the exact same players. Church has a smaller salary but not that much cheaper for now. I would like to have another left handed bat though.

Wouldn't bother me either way who we had in RF between those two. Church is younger and a bit faster. Both are batting around or above .300 and I actually think Ryan Church has hit more home runs than Xavier Nady so far this season; its more of a question can either hit that way for an entire season. I dont think the trad accomplishes a whole lot for either side if it did take place. Just my thoughts.

Although X Man has been a pleasant surprise this year (along with McLouth), I would be interested in this deal. It's confounding that 7 years into life in a ballpark with a short right field line, and the team still cannot maintain a crop of power hitting left handers. With the exception of Nate, the Buccos still lack that power hitting lefty, unless of course Adam LaRoche finally wakes up. The one negative I've noticed is that Church is another one of those 1 K per every 4 AB type guys. With him, Bay, and LaRoche in the same line up, there could be many box scores with double digit strike outs.
I do agree with the comments about not tinkering with the roster for at least a few more weeks. If the so-called "Big Three" in the rotation finally emerge, the Bucs should be able to surge over .500.

This proposed trade makes no sense. If Nady, or any other player for that matter, is traded I think they will be traded for prospects. McCutcheon and Pearce will be the outfielders that replace Bay and Nady when they are traded. I don't see NH | |
