A lot of people on this board, and others, are calling for GJ to release his LOI. I know the excitement of John Wall (which I dont think will happen) is there and GJ doesn't seem to match up. I, however, do not think that in order to win a NC that UK has to have 5-star players at every position. I do agree that PG is probably the most important. But, other than Rondo I cant think of another 5-star recruit UK has had at PG for 10+years (Bradley was 4-star) and I think we've had some good ones.
Anthony Epps wasnt a 5-star recruit. For what I remember (I grew up in Marion county KY) Rick Pitino didn't even want Epps initially. He thought for a while he was going to have to walk-on or go somewhere else. And look how he turned out. And I may be completely wrong but I dont think Wayne Turner was either.
GJ will never be John Wall, nor will he likely ever be NBA ready, and will probably be a 4 year player, but as a HS sophmore he avaraged 20pts and 4.5 assist/game (I dont know this past year's stats) and he LOVES Billy G. He was the first kid in the country to jump on the Billy G bandwagon when he got to UK.
I think the kid is coming for sure. Let's atleast give him a chance.

I agree, he is a solid recruit and we do not have to worry about him being a one a done deal. The problem with most of the 5 star players is that most of the time they are using the university as jumping board to the NBA . How many 5 star players stay 4 years???This is a good recruit for our program. Go Cats!!!

I also agree that he should come to UK. We do need a point guard and although it would be exciting to see Wall, i think he'll be a one-and-done. We would need a player who could stay with the team more than that, and considering he's dedicated to the coach, we should want him.

ok wall is not coming to uk if we get jasper back...why? because the PG spot will aready be filled for years to come with jasper and liggins... my only prob with GJ is that i dont know much about him.. yeah he averaged 21 points per game his sophmore year but was that a 1 or 2 A school.. i mean i go to a 1A school and i there is a kid on our team who averages 19 ppg as a JR and thats mostly cause we did not have anyone else who could score and we sucked but in no way will he be able to play at a D1 level cause it took him 20+ shots and free throws to get to the 19 point mark cause there was no one else on the team to back him up. my point is that how do we know this kid is not in that same situation and will just be a huge bust who cant score on the college level cause he goes from a 1A or 2A school to the SEC

gillispie would not recruit GJ if he didnt feel he could play D1. Gillispie didnt just go, oh look he averaged 21 points, im going to offer him a scholly. If gillispie wants him, then i believe he will be a threat.

He was also the First-Team All-State in Texas. Over Ross-Miller and others. 1A, 2A or 6A it really doesnt matter, because Texas puts out the talent and to be on the First-Team must mean something.

I hope he sticks with us. First off, like others said Wall will be a one and done player. And, rumors are at best we may be #3 on his list now, anyway. We just need a true point guard on the roster and GJ will fill that role. It seems we've been getting turned away by a lot of point guards lately (no idea why after seeing what Gillispie has done with Bradley AND Acie Law III), so I'm just glad to have a need getting filled with GJ. He might not be the most talented, but like others said, we don't need 5 stars at every position. Plus, we will have a lot of point-wing type players who can distribute to take the pressure off who ever our point guard is.
