Welcome back to the thread. Interleague play begins today, as the Oakland A's (23-19) come to Turner Field to take on the Atlanta Braves (20-20). Atlanta is coming off a 2-5 road trip in Pennsylvania, dropping series to the Pirates and Phillies in the last seven days. Oakland is currently on a 1-5 road trip. The A's collided with the lights out Indians pitching staff, and was swept in their last series. Righty Jair Jurrjens goes to the hill for Atlanta and Oakland will counter southpaw Dana Eveland.

PITCHING MATCHUP

Dana Eveland - OAK - 3-3, 3.23 ERA, 20 BB, 35 K
Jair Jurrjens     - ATL - 4-3, 3.10 ERA, 17 BB 41 K

Eveland has pitched well in his previous two starts, despite a 0-1 record in those games. He threw 7 shutout innings against the Orioles and gave up 3 earned runs in 6 innings in a loss to Texas.

Jurrjens has been solid all year for Atlanta. He has recorded 7 quality starts out of his first 8 starts this season. He has never gone less than 5 innings and the 4 earned runs he allowed against Colorado (4/8) are a season high.

ROSTER REPORT

2B Mark Ellis (hamstring) will most likely not be in the starting lineup. He has missed the past 3 games for the A's. P Santiago Casilla (arm) left yesterday's game against Cleveland. He threw one pitch, a homer, before leaving with pain in his forearm.

3B Chipper Jones (groin) sat out yesterday's game against the Phillies. I do not know at this time if he is in the starting lineup.

Post your thoughts, observations, play-by-play, rants and whatever. I'll be posting on the GameCenter glog and this thread. I also have started a Blog which covers some random stuff but will be more centered on baseball in the coming months. Also, ESPN ran an article about Chipper Jones today. I don't have the link, but I'm sure their MLB page will have it.

I would love to see Chipper in the lineup tonight even though his hammy is sore.  He's been great at playing through injuries so far this season.  I would love to see him accomplish his goal of playing at least 150 games this season.

The Mets and Yankees have been rained out in New York.

Nationals lead the Orioles 2-0 in the first.

Chipper Jones is in the lineup today. He is batting in his usual third spot.

Jurrjens gives up back-to-back singles to start the first, but gets out of the jam without allowing a run. Dana Eveland mows through the first three Braves, a 1-2-3 inning in just 9 pitches.

Jurrjens looks bad through 2. Braves still can't hit with RISP. I'm not in a bad mood yet. But I'm close

Jurrjens looks like junk. The lineup still isn't hitting. I'm at a loss right now. And I'm bitter.

2-0 A's bottom 4

Somehow, Jurrjens only allowed 2 ER today. Somehow, the Braves are only down 2-0 after 5 innings. Atlanta has to start hitting again, this is ridiculous. I'm still bitter.

Good pitchers can survive without their good stuff. Pitchers like Chuck James give up 3 homers. How about that tag earlier by McCann. And Diaz with a nice defensive play. Lets see if the Braves can pull one out. They're hangin around.

That's the only good news is that the Braves are hanging around. I know Jurrjens didn't have it today, but Oakland let him off the hook today. Braves should be out of this one.

I know Jurrjens didn't have it today
Let's remember Braves fan, Jair Jurrjens is still a rookie and I know we expect a lot out of him every time out because of the success he's had this season but there will be times when he just has to grit it out out there.

That being said..........This was his first time pitching on 3 days rest, so nice job by the kid keepin the team in it til the bats got going.

Bottom line.........The Athletics scored only 2 runs off him and.........

BRAVES WIN!!
