Hello again everybody. Welcome to the game thread for the rubber match between the Atlanta Braves (20-19) and the Philadelphia Phillies (22-19). Philadelphia used a mid-game rally to win the first game on Tuesday 5-4 and Atlanta used a barrage of homers off starter Brett Myers to hold of the Phillies 8-6. The rubber match tonight will have Chuck James on the hill going against Phillies ace, Cole Hamels.
PITCHING MATCHUP
Chuck James - ATL - 2-2, 7.58 ERA, 11 BB, 17 K
Cole Hamels - PHI - 4-3, 3.36 ERA, 17 BB, 48 K
James has been up and down from AAA Richmond for the Braves to fill in for their numerous injuries. James lost his last start against the Pirates, giving up 5 earned runs in 6 innings. James has a 2-0 record against the Phillies with a 4.08 ERA in over 35 innings.
Hamels has pitched well in his last three starts, going 2-0 while giving up runs in over 20 innings. Hamels is averaging over 7 innings a start this season. He has a 3-2 record against Atlanta with a 4.42 ERA in just under 40 innings.
ROSTER REPORTS
Braves 1B Mark Teixeira was back in the lineup after missing two games with a back injury. He went 0-4 with 3K's yesterday.
NL EAST WATCH
The Nationals beat the Mets 1-0 today despite Mets start Mike Pelfrey throwing a no-hitter into the 7th. Good defense in the 9th by Willie Harris and Aaron Boone ended a Mets rally. The Florida Marlins scored 6-runs in the 9th yesterday, but lost to the Reds in extra innings. The Reds are going for the sweep tonight in Cincinnati.
AUTHOR'S NOTE
I actually went to the Braves-Phillies game yesterday to nearly watch our bullpen implode again. But, Boyer got out of the jam in the 9th and I improved my record at Citizens Bank to 4-0 when I see the Braves. Good times. I heard a "Larry" chant, then saw Chipper crush a homer and saw Myers get booed.

Eagle,
Glad you went to a game and saw them win.
I was at the four game series against the Pirates and the Braves scored just 4 runs in 3 games (with the third game being a shutout.)
They did come back and win the 2nd game of the doubleheader.
So, I saw them win, in person. which is always a thrill, (especially against the Dodgers or the Mets)..
I had people at PNC Park try do the "Larry" thing too. Each time, Chipper would get a hit.
Let's hope they can win this one tonight, again, in Philly, before they meet the A's.
By the way, the A's lost today.

I love seeing major leagues games in person. I see a ton of minor/independent league games in person every summer because they're closer and cheaper. But I have to admit, the Phillies and Citizens Bank Park are making it easy. Not only is it a beautiful park (is it me or does the NL East have a ton of new and/or great parks. I think all 5 teams qualify.), but $20-25 gets you a good seat in the outfield on the first two levels. Decent food, I ate a cheese steak yesterday (which you are bound by law to do every time you go to Philly) and had a great time with a college buddy of mine. Much better/easier/cheaper than going to Shea or Yankee Stadium in New York. Good times again.

Chipper Jones is not in the lineup today. Omar Infante will start at third. Unknown if it is an injury or just an off day for Chipper. Also starting today is Ruben Gotay at second and Matt Diaz in left.
Why is Chipper out? He's been UN-FRIGGEN-BELIEVABLE so far this year. It's the rubber game against a divisional rival. I don't like this. Game hasn't even started and I'm bitter.

I know Im going to catch a ton of heat for this, but its Chipper or the training staff a bunch of softies? If Chipper is deciding not to play, I have a huge issue with that. If it's the trainers, I have an even bigger problem with it. Those guys havent played in a game past Little League and they think they know what players can/cannot play with. I know it's all about precautionary stuff these days, but c'mon, your best player your team has seen the last 30-40 years better be playing.

Jeff Francoeur will be the death of me. I swear every time he swings (or anyone else for that matter) at the first pitch, I lose a day of the end of my life. Whatever.
Infante hits a single but gets stranded.
Mark Teixeira looks bad. He's got 4 K's in combined from yesterday and today.
