The only way this kind of crap is going to stop is if the NBA refuses to use NCAA basketball as its 1-2 year minor league system.  The NCAA should make all college scholarships 4-year scholarships.  If the player breaks the contract and leaves early they should not only have to pay back the cost of the scholarship, but should have to pay 90% of their salary to the college they left for the period of time remaining on their 4-year commitment.  So if they leave after their freshman year, they would have to forfeit 90% of their NBA salary for the next 3 years.  That would discourage early departure substantially.  If they are good enough to go to the NBA right away, then they can decide to not going to college, and then they can take all the money they want from sports agents!

So many people would just stop going to college if that were the rule.  It's pretty likely that such a restrictive rule would be illegal--anti trust violation probably.

Then go back to the old system where kids could go pro whenever they wanted to.

And what about coaches, they have the right to jump from one school to the next in the middle of a student athlete's scholarship...is that right/fair???  Many kids choose the school because of the coach.
