The last 2 seasons the Vikings pass defense has not been one of the worst in the league and they have not been one of the best either. The truth is they have been perfectly mediocre.

I would agree with that statement.  They were above average in 2006, and below last year.  Good reasoning on the stats.  Like 2006 where while they were thrown on more than anyone they only gave up 15 passing TD's (10 less than Green Bay that year).  They also had one of the best first downs allowed per pass attempt ratio's in the league.

Brett Favre threw 50 times on them in one game.  Granted he did have 280 yards in that game, but had no TD"s and 2 INT's.

Kitna averaged 40+ attempts and 250+ yards against them in 06.  He also only threw 2 TD's in those two games, had 8 turnovers, 2 of which were returned for TD's, and another 3 that left Minnesota with the ball already in FG range.

That's giving up a lot of yards which drops their pass D ranking.  But I'd call those three games wins for the pass D by far.

07 there was a lot less of those kind of games though.

You make a very good point.  Apparently we can only get objectivity from non-Viking and non-Packer fans on this post.  The Vikings and Tavaris Jackson should be better this year. The Packers shouldn't be as good this year after losing Farve and replacing him with a first year strarter.  I don't mind as a Vikings fan if the Packer rubes want us to prove we are better than they are before we start talking about a division title this year.  The Giants are Super Bowl Champions until they are knocked out of the playoffs.  May the best team win.

Well with my Chiefs letting him go to the Vikes, they are probalby the best defense in the NFC, if not the league.

The Vikings and Tavaris Jackson should be better this year. The Packers shouldn't be as good this year after losing Farve and replacing him with a first year strarter.

But the Packers have a very young D (besides the corners) starting to improve (you saw it in the 2nd game), as well as youth at WR and RB, that should be better.

And even if the Vikings do improve and the Packers drop, remember, these teams weren't close last year.  There was 5 games between them and the Packers swept the Vikings, including in Minnesota, with a healthy AD and before Ryan Grant was in the lineup.

hold up

even adding Allen and Williams the Vikings have defensive issues

not one of their LBs would start in GB or Chicago, yet three of them start for Minnesota.

Sharper is a ball hawk but he still misses a lot, and when he misses he is still the best end zone escort service in the NFL.

and Winfield is yet another year older and still only 3 apples tall.

are the Vikings better ~ YES

Allen will finally give tham a pass rush again, which they have lacked since John Randle left, and that will help everything. However I cannot see it propelling them into the top 10 defenses, more or less the #1.

The Vikes will still be the #3 defense in the NFC North
