With the allegations of OJ Mayo taking money from signing agents, it makes me wonder how much of this occurs at all the big name schools including UW. I won't pretend I'm naive enough to think it doesn't happen at UW. The only incident I can remember with UW was the Shoe Box scandal (if you consider it at a 'scandal' level) with the football team back in the late 90's.

I honestly can't see Bo Ryan putting up with any crap concerning this type of stuff with his basketball team. I really can't. This doesn't mean there are shady boosters playing behind-the-scenes games with our recruits.

On the other hand, could there be wrongdoings going on with our football team? We've been getting progressively better over the years since the Barry Alvarez era, and now we're getting recruits from major talent states like Florida and Texas. Sure, USC has tradition, great weather, and beautiful women...so i don't even see why they should have to pay anyone to go play there, but Madison on the other hand is cold (we do have our share of beautiful women, just more girl-next-door ones : )...and it makes me wonder how we draw some players up from the south. Bielema's a shifty, deceiving guy. Let's hope it's all legit.

I'm not accusing UW of anything and I'd love to believe we are on the straight and narrow path. I am simply curious of other peoples opinions of big conferences programs and UW. The university of Wisconsin is certainly moving up in the national athletic elite rankings. I would hate to see any major hit to our program.

GO BADGERS!!! (Just within NCAA regulations please!)

Now more to the point of your thread. Let's put it this way, if Bielema is cheating then he is doing a really poor job of it seeing as how we haven't even had a recruiting class crack teh top 20. You want to look for cheaters, look down in Champaign-Urbana, a losing program with no prospects suddenly getting top 10 classes year after year, and don;t give that "Zook is a great recruiter" bologna. So, could something be going on, sure I suppose anything is possible, do I think they are blatantly cheating like the reports we are seeing elsewhere, I doubt it, and if they are they are not very good at it.

I'll date myself a bit here but I seem to remember when I was on campus, Rashard Griffith suddenly showing up with a tricked out SUV that you could hear coming from about 3 miles away (or more appropriately feel the bass not necessarily hear the music).  I often thought that it was a really nice ride for a college student from Chicago on the level to have.  That was in the Stu Jackson years though and I'm certain that neither Bennet nor Ryan would put up with that.

I remember that jfs (I was on campus at that time as well) As I recall it was a white Bravada (a top of the line SVU for the time) with a serious stereo system.

I think you're right about the type.  I know it had quite the stereo system.  A kid in my dorm got roughed up a bit by his "entourage" for touching the car as it was pulling out of the Lake St parking garage.  He was drunk and acting like an idiot and bumped into the car pretending to get hit by it.  The guy in the passenger seat got out and if I remember right punched him in the stomach.  Class act right?

Rashard Griffith.  What a joke?  I remeber that truck.  I also remember him cheating in Psysh class on the final.  Thanks for the memories.  I actually played a pickup game against him in Orlando a few years back.  He beat me.  I'm 0-2.  Psych test AND the basketball game.  Tough

In his 14+ years his teams have won like 8 Euro titles, he's won several MVP's and he's made millions upon millions of dollars. Hard to argue with that. And as a side note he COULD have playe din the NBA, the Bucks tried to sign him to be their starting center but his Euro squad was paying him more than the Bucks offered him, I can't hardly blame him for that.

It's understandable that a 16, 17 or 18 year old kid will take something for nothing.  It's the responsibility of the college coaching staff to monitor and mentor these kids when the get to school.  In Mayo's case his coach permitted Ferguson access to Mayo and allowed him to serve as an intermediary.  I don't believe that Bo or Brett would allow something like this to occure.
