My main concern is Bourne.  We have to some how get this guy on base more.  It seems like he can steal a base everytime he's on.  When I see him come up to bat, it's like an auto out in my mind.  He's got speed like Willy Taveras did, problem is because he's left handed and he's a pull hitter, he's constantly pulling the ball to the right side of the field so he's not hitting it to short or third.  I think the hitting coach needs to help him hit it to the other side of the field, even if it doesn't leave the infield.  He could out run any ball hit in between short and 3rd base.  That's how Willy always did it, and at least it would start to build his confidence.

The other thing is our bullpen, I just hope it continues to improve.  Just when I thought Villareal was starting to do well, he crashed.  He did ok the day before, but he's so streaky.  I'm also skeptical on Brocail, but i love his tough veteran mentality.

With his wheels, he could do what Willy does to add 50 points to his average, bunt. If he could learn it, he could beat out  2-3 out of 5, not to mention bring the infield in and have the pitchers diving toward home on thier release, screwing up thier rhythm, helping draw more walks. He seems to be a hard working kid with insane wheels, I'd really like to see him make it, not to mention what he could do for the Astros.

And what about his defense...holy crap that catch he made in centerfield yesterday...Whoa, that was sweet sauce.  He caught it a SPLIT second before crashing into the wall.  I was just praying that he didn't get hurt while he was laying on the ground....even with his bad bat, lol.

Manic, I agree he could bunt, and surely they're working on something for him to do.  I can't imagine them wanting to send him to AAA Round Rock anytime soon.  His speed is so nasty.

I agree with both comments from you guys about Bourne.  However, he's still young and still learning.  I would give him a full season to develop.  Last season he was hitting .277.

Willy Taveras took him about a full season to learn the game.  There's no doubt Bourne is a speed demon.  Eventually, I think he will learn how to use his speed and bunt his way on.

I watched him played yesterday in the 7th inning.  The first ball he hit barely went foul along first base line.  A little bit of luck would have cleared the base for him.  The second hit in the same at bat was caught by an outreached arm of Matt Kemp.  That one would have cleared the base too in the 7th inning.  Again, a little bit more juice on that ball would have been a hit.  I feel confident that this guy would do well down the road.

The Astros need to be patient and allow him to learn the game by letting him play full season.  But I also agree that he needs to work with hitting coach to develop better approach at the plate instead of trying to pull the ball everytime.

Godly - I don't disagree with you, they need to be patient.  My only problem is  that he's our table setter.  You shouldn't have someone with a .279 OBP setting up your offense.  The bad thing is you don't want him at the bottom where his speed isn't being used.  I guess they just have to leave him up top and hope that he starts to get on base sooner than later.

The scary thing about Bourn is that he's got 17 stolen bases and he's not even hitting .200. If the guy hit .250 or .260 he could get 85-90 steals. What a potential weapon!

There's no way I'd want to give up on him at this stage because the talent is obviously there.I'm thinking maybe Cooper could give Erstad and Cruz a few starts and and take a little pressure off of Bourn.

patience is the key. I dont want Bourne to end up like Willy, playing for another team because they gave up on him. With the way our lineup is set right now I believe they can be happy with just stellar defense from him. In other words despite his poor hitting I believe we can still win. Does this mean he should continue to lead off? Maybe not, but we have options there as well. I beleive Matsui would be a good leadoff guy. Although I hope they continue to let Bourne hit there and let him work things out. He will come around.
