UMass is a much better example than Michigan.  Michigan deserved a lot worse than what they got in my opinion.

At Umass, a wannabe agent was giving Camby $$ on the promise he would hire him once he jumped to the NBA, basically the exact same thing we are seeing here.    They had to vacate their 96 FF and forfeit a bunch of games that Camby participated in for using an ineliegible player.  I do not believe they lost any schollies.

Look for something similiar to happen to USC.  No real penalty, just forfeiture of games.  Although, duek used an ineligible player for the entire 99 season, but nada happened, because the NCAA pansies didn't want ot take a FF and 30+ victories away from Coach K.   so the NCAA in its infite hypocrisy could do anything here.

Ben R, great point on Ed Martin being a Booster, that takes it to another level for the NCAA, very specific rules about that.  Plus Ed Martin was paying 5 players at U of M, while the guy from the Agency was only paying one (Mayo), if he had gotten four more guys to come to USC maybe they could have made it to the NCAA finals only to loose after calling a timeout when they didn't have any more (love yeah Chris Webber).  The Gods of Basketball kept those five from winning a Big Ten Title and a National Championship.  Maybe Martin should have paid them more.......

My Spartys had to forfeit all 5 of their wins for the 1994 football season due to use of an ineligible player.  Funny how that penalty wasn't applied to the Duke Basketball Team.  That's part of the problem with the NCAA they don't apply their punishments consistantly.  There seems to be a lot going on behind the scenes with Mr. Brand and his punishments.
