As much as I love Gonzalez or Soriano in the closer's spot, Smoltz (and Bobby Cox) has said he's coming back as a reliever, which means he'll probably be the closer. Does this mean he'll close every game, I don't think so. I think Gonzalez, Soriano or Acosta can fill in as often as once or twice a week depending on how Smoltz feels. If Smoltz doesn't feel 100 percent, he'll just be unavailable for that game. As much as I don't like this move, because the rotation isn't as strong (Hudson, Glavine, Jurrjens, Reyes, James, Hampton, maybe even Bennett or Carlyle from the pen too, and that's not a bad rotation either), it gives the Braves an amazing bullpen with Soriano, Gonzalez and Smoltz 7-8-9. If this plays out well, we could have a killer pen for the late season push.
