Most of us M's fans want Griffey. Actually, in my mind if you don't want Griffey you aren't really a M's fan. Just saw this
With the Reds possibly looking to trade OF Ken Griffey, Seattle's Duane Schafer, a special consultant to the general manager, showed up in New York this weekend with the expressed assignment of watching Griffey, according to the Dayton Daily News. "Don't know him and never heard of him," Griffey said Sunday morning. "As I've always said, I deal with the here and now and I've never been a what-if person."
It don't mean jack, but at least we are looking at getting him. I don't think he would be available untill after his 600th dong. But, I want him...He isn't going to save our season alone and isn't even close to the player he once was, but I think he could bring a very very positive mood to the M's. I'm not sure what it would take to get him though. It defintely isn't worth giving away strong talent to get him when we have a very good chance of getting him as a free agent. What do you think???

well dont worry we will have Griffey soon possible the day after he hits his 600th HR, the Reds have a killer OF prospect that they have been dying to bring up but dont have any room for him, and Griffey isnt having a very good year. a Reds reporter was on KJR last week talking about how it is just a formallity now waiting for the 600th HR and they wouldnt ask Seattle for much in return as they were so impressed with the love Seattle showed him last year and with all due respect to Griffey he isnt really worth much in a trade but at least it would give us long time Mariner fans a reason to actually go to Safeco in the summer, maybe they should try dollar beer night like the Rainiers bet they'd draw more than 11,000 people

I'd love to have him as well. I obviously haven't watched a lot of Red's games but is he still healthy/athletic enough to play in the outfield or would we need to DH him? If we put him in left and move Ibanez to DH our defense would improve, and we would have a better bat in the lineup than Clement or Vidro, who are both struggling.
Go M's!!!

from what the guys on the radio from the Reds said Griffey would be coming in and looking to play RF or LF, and of course he is a better option than Raul is, a cripple is a better option than Raul is in the field, Ibanez is a perfect DH just as Edgar was, cant field or throw but can hit..Junior seems to be playing the field well enough but he is struggling offensively but like that matters he is the most beloved Mariner of all time and even if he doesnt hit we have become use to it but we actually already have love for the guy as opposed to how many people have actually made connections with the city on this team? Ichiro, JJ and Felix I think

I'd be stoked if Jr came back. He's still got some dings left in him and it'd be fun to watch. He was the main reason I got into loving baseball back in the early 90's. It'd completely be worth it if the Reds honestly were willing to dish him out in a reasonable trade.
Maybe we'll luck out and we can trade McClaren for him and the Moose can co coach/mascot us to the playoffs.
Go Moose!

This coming from a Reds fan.
Seattle sent a scout to New York specifically to watch Griffey this weekend against the Mets. Then today there are reports that Jay Bruce, a top prospect OF in AAA, will be called up fairly soon to Cincinnati.
Just my opinion, I think Junior will be in a Seattle uniform again by Friday evening against the Padres.

Oh, and in reference to his playing ability...
I still think he's a more than capable LF/RF who still has the 30 HR, 100 RBI bat. If the Reds were winning, I'd love for him to retire in Cincinnati. But we aren't, so I'd rather see him retire where he's actually appreciated and see the Reds get something worthwhile, even if its just prospects.
