It's too bad it had to come to this. Once a feared and dominant member of the Dodgers, now just another completely bust FA signing that just so happened to be mentioned on the Mitchell report. And to think he won a Cy Young.

This hurts coming from a former huge Eric Gagne fan to current baseball realist. It's time to put this horse down.

Maybe a shot in the rear(literally, HGH maybe?) will do him some good.

Hey Remember when morons would claim that PED's couldnt help a pitcher.

Seems as if Mr Gagne was a star when allowed to juice up and then he coincidentally had a string of bad luck after he stopped juicing with those "worthless" PED's.

They should bar him from the game and strip him of all his stats.

Seems as if everyone in this post wants to blame steriods.  Remember he had tommy john surgery and lost some of the velocity on his fastball.  I'm not saying that is the reason, but i am also saying it is not strictly because of steroids.

I am glad to see this, I feel Riske should be our closer of the future

"Yost and the coaching staff know what's going on but are not revealing the details"...I think we all know what is needed here.  Pull him for a few weeks and get him back on the Juice.  He should be effective after about 4 weeks, then roaring into the play-offs like the super-human he was a few years ago.

Surgery isn't an excuse either.

He was having a great comeback year with the Rangers before being shipped off to Boston.

Closers are all about confidence bordering on cockiness.... he no longer has that. He faced pressure for the first time in Boston and choked badly.

Remember when Lidge was lights out with Houston? Then Pujols launches a ball in to outer orbit and he was never the same again. But he is doing great this year, took him 4 years to get over it though.

Gagne will eventually get out of his funk, may take a while though.

Brewers have faith in Gagne

The Brewers knew what they were getting themselves into by signing Eric Gagne a $10 million+ contract, yes they were aware of the possible shortcomings. But their faith in Gagne surely must be great, given the terms of the deal. Their mindset: if Gagne is a bust, then so be it - at least we tried... Gagne was bound to be picked up by a team sometime, even given that it would be a somewhat hefty deal - I mean someone had to sign him, or there would be grounds for a grievance.

Since steroids causes bodily degradation, it is possible that it could have inflicted Gagne with serious injuries leading up to Tommy John surgery, right? But seriously, I think Gagne can become a great reliever again, just not like he was before. As far as closers go, he should rank close to the middle or middle-low
