Do you think Walsh was the source and just lied to the reporter?  Or do you think someone else was the source and Walsh just failed to make that known when he should have?

I think the Herald owes its readers the revelation of its sources, but I would not be surprised when it's traced out that the original comments where yet another exaggeration made by an insecure lad (Matthew) in his typically demonstrated desperate behavior to be noticed by someone.  He lies on his resumes, he apparently lies to his own friends, his parents, and in-laws as has been documented in several blogs published by his own associates, he lied about his responsibilities while with the Patriots.  I'm not sure why this kid got so much attention other than the fact that people needed more reasons to be a Hatriot.

Another nobody looking for a paycheck. Annoying that an idiot can create such a firestorm, but if he's got nothing than this will fade away in a hurry.

Beause he chose not to spend his time in the spotlight, saying what he did, or did not have to the public?  He was waiting for his immunity.  Why should he say anything about that before he got it.

It is in no way his responsibility to correct random "unnamed sources" that reporters use to stir up rumors.  It had no effect on him.  All it could have done was possibly interfere with his progress at getting immunity.

If he came out and held a press conference to set some of the records straight... I can guarantee you, the Walsh haters would be saying he is milking this situation for the fame.  He just wants his face on TV... yadda yadda.

Instead he only communicates basically through his lawyer or with the NFL, and now he is doing that for the fame too???     Does anyone know what he looks like?

Yes the Pats have been painting this huge smear campaign about Walsh.  I understand that.  Clemens is trying the same thing with MacNamee.. If you ruin your opponents rep, even the solid info he may have can be dismissed in public opinion.

If you ruin your opponents rep, even the solid info he may have can be dismissed in public opinion.

Slash - alot are forgetting how he came about this information.  He stole it and it seems the tapes were stolen long before he was fired.  Speaking of fired, why did he get fired?  For secretly taping conversations.  Yet he told Mike Fish, of ESPN, the following (and which contradicts your comment about him only communicating through his lawyer or the NFL):

Walsh says he was frustrated with the monotony of the scouting job in New England -- he focused on the few football-playing colleges in western New York -- and that may have been a factor in his dismissal. He suggested it likely got back to the Patriots that he had made overtures about video jobs with other teams. He eventually landed a series of assistant golf pro jobs at private clubs in New England and Arizona.

Also, per the article, he said he worked his way up the ladder to become a college scout.  He never was.  He said he was in the golf program at his college yet the college sports information office has no record of him in their files.

Here's another ignorant quote from that same article.

Are they going to try and threaten me? Or say, don't talk about it? Then, they are putting themselves out there and looking bad as far as if I turn around and say, 'Hey, guess what, the league called me and said we're gonna take away your pension if you say anything about this.'"   Later, Walsh said his reference to a pension meant his 401k retirement plan.

He then goes on to say:

"If I had a reason to want to go public or tell a story, I could have done it before this even broke," he said. "I could have said everything rather than having Eric Mangini be the one to bring it out."

He mentioned a confidentiality agreement he signed with the club, though he's not sure how that might factor into what he has to say.

Bottom line, in my opinion, is that Matt Walsh when sought out, perfectly played the David versus Goliath angle but not with the truth.  He played it with outright lies and suppositions told to the media who were just chomping at the bit to be the first to "break the story".  He should have done exactly what you said, Slash, and just communicated with his attorney and the NFL.  Now he's exposed himself as someone whose character should be questioned just as much as Belichick's is.

There never was an agreement but let's say there was; it's shocking that Walsh doesn't have a copy given his history of having one of everything else.
Really?  What happened to the confidentiality agreement that you said you signed?:
If he truly knew what he was talking about, he'd have known that no employer can take away either their pension or retirement plan just for disclosing company practices.  These plans are federally regulated and the organization would be in much more trouble than for any taping signals.  This and the fact that a 401(k) is primarily comprised of employee contributions.  The organization is going to keep money that was his?

He had to wait for immunity,  The rumour about the walk through started almost immediately after the SB. but nobody had proof enough to print it.  I drive alot and listen to sports radio and have heard the local writers talk about it for years.

this is great...1st you have slashsnake saying it isn't walshs responsibility to reveal his source......SLASH! he was talking about the Herald, mainly Tomase, not walsh...

2nd you have steeler saying there was a confidentry agreement, there was never one signed....

guys get your facts straight, stop grasping at straws.

The reasons Walsh needed indemity was beacause he STOLE Patriots property and didn't want to be punished for it.

MTR is just upset that he can't get his own little piece of the pie so to speak.  With the immunity deal given it sounds like only Matt Walsh's lawyers will be making out after all this is said and done.

Ancient history!

And alot to do about nothing.  Walsh was looking for publicity, and to get a dig into an employer that fired him.  There isn't anything new there, no Superbowl walkthrough, nothing.

So let's talk about the future of the NFL!

Can the Patriots actually pull off a 37-1 record.  Strange got on the wagon and thinks they can make a 36 and 2, which just amazed me that he was so quick to jump on!

Just trying to give you fans of lesser teams something to talk about while we wait for the season to get here.

37 - 1 Coming soon to a stadium near you!

Your New England Patriots!

WooHoo!
