We all know why the sox walked away scot free from mitchell report.....everyone used to say look at bonds 10 years ago and look at him now....let's do the same for Ortiz....body breaking down the same way....he got considerably larger....yes even his head.....but noone wants to point at him cause he's so bubbly!!!!!!! Whatever it is....he's a one dimentional player....period......he is only a DH and now can't do that effectively everyday....Manny on the other hand....spectacular as always!!!!!

what an assenine post! how can you even compare Bonds to Ortiz...in Pittsburgh Bonds was a skinny little guy who would steal 30+ bases every year. Ortiz was always a big dude, even in Minnesotta. you're just showing your ignorance and bias when you bring up steroids.
and why did "the sox walk away scot free in the mitchell report"? is there some big conspiracy going on to protect the sox and blame the steroids era on the yanks? give me a break! and no, I am not a sox fan...just a baseball fan who's tired of every player who's performance drops a bit being touted as a roids user.

you'd know that mitchell has worked for the sox and has a connection there...so I do believe he did not look into them as he did elsewhere....just my opinion....but how come baseball couldn't hire someone with no team affiliations?? mistake on there part...they put the speculation there for me and others to pounce on....and ortiz was much skinnier in minnesota....how can you not see the difference......get some old footage and compare it to last few years....it's a joke....I'm not comparing him to bonds really...but the mitchell report itself was a joke cause as you know....there are hundreds of guys not listed who got a free pass and that isn't right!!! If you think he nailed every guy who has used then ok...but I don't believe that and I think Papi has used....just my opinion....just like people thin a rod has used......I have no bias....don't like the sox...true....but love manny and respect him......if I were truly bias how could I love manny....this is about an individual....not a team!

Knowone thinks that he nailed everyone. Mitchell said himself in the report that he only got a small percentage of the cheaters.

Man, you are one ignorant individual, you know that? First, Big Papi didn't get the playing time in Minnesota that he's gotten there in Boston...second, the lineup that he's been playin in with Boston is much better than the one he was playing for at the time with the Twins...steroids? Dude, David Ortiz has knee issues because of an injury he sustained running/playing the field and from past surgery, NOT from steriods. I suggest you get a clue and learn a thing or two instead of just making assumptions and saying that everyone is on "the juice", because not all ball players are/were...I'm in no way a Boston fan, but I do know a few things about the game.

I really don't think he's that much bigger, but I guess I'd have to review some old pictures when he was with MN. I know he hasn't grown significantly since he's been in Boston. The funny thing about him is...and this will bring a lot of laughs I'm sure...he's really not that fat. He's one of those guys who look a lot bigger than he is.
But, he's just too soft looking to be a juicer, I think. I wonder more about the guys that are just super-ripped. If I ever wondered about any Red Sox player using the juice, it would be Gabe Kapler. I know he was supposed to be this super clean work out freak, but the guy had .001% body fat. It's guys like that I wonder more about than guys like Papi.

The person who started this silly post is a Yankee fan.
The Yankees disgusting payroll and .500 winning percentage is the laughing stock of profesional sports, and is comparably waistful as to the 485 billion dollars this country has poured into the Iraq war.
No more to explain - just take it as bitterness.

Hypocrytes you say?
2008 Opening Day Payrolls
Yanks #1 payroll in the 209mil range. (up over 10mill from last year)
Next closest team(Tigers) are 70mil less.
Sox #4 are about 76mil less then the Yanks. (down about 10mill from last year)
www.sportsline.com/mlb/salaries
That 76mil difference is about or more then 14 of the MLB teams total payroll. More then the last 2 combined.(DRays/43mil and Marlins/21mil)

Hmmmm forgot to add the quote in.....ooops
Anyway, Ortiz is big and has always been a big guy. Big guys put more wear and tear doing the same things as a lighter guy would. Ortiz rumbling down to first puts alot of strain on his joints. Ortiz has averaged 1 home run for every 10.4-20.6 at bats for the last 7 years(20.6 was his last year in Minn with a 16.83 the year before).
Going with A-Rod, he has averaged 1 home run for every 10.8-16.7 at bats the last 7 years. Wooopeeefriggindooo

NJ, he's not bigger now that's the point. Everyone has already explained this part to you, but it's really obvious, look at the pictures. He has been consistent for four straight years and was breaking down last year too. This knee injury is reminiscent of Mo Vaughn's, guys this big get this problem. Meanwhile, Barry Bonds is built like a train and always has been, it's pure muscle, David Ortiz will never be in the same league, but maybe if he used 'roids he would have been that's why I respect the guy. Remember Bonds was a 40-40 guy, Papi couldn't steal a base if his life depended on it at any point in his career.
Remember, the Twins never gave this guy a chance, it's not necessarily that he was bad, he hit well in the minors. The fact that he hits for the Sox says more about their organizations talent scouting than anything. By the way, I have to give George credit, he wanted Ortiz bad, just didn't get him.
One more thing, the whole conspiracy thing with the Mitchell Report is insane. The Red Sox had 1 current player and 3 former players named in the report, Eric Gagne was the current player at the time and the other three like Jim Leyritz and a couple pitchers I don't remember never got much press. Credit Theo and Duquette for actually screening their potential players for 'roids, after all, you probably read the email on Gagne expressing his concern. It's exactly why the Red Sox do things better than any other organization in baseball right now.

Dude - do you have fuzzy vision? Sure Ortizis bigger now than 6 years ago. Most ALL people bulk up significantly through their 20s. And most people continue to bulk up through their 30s ... and 40s ....
The difference between the way Papi bulked up and the way folks like Bonds, Canseco, MacGwire, et al, bulked up is that a significant portion of Papi's bulk is right around the wasteline .... All the known abusers displayed significang upper body, highly cut muscle mass. Papi has a big chest and arms, but he doesn't look remotely like any of those guys.
Genetically, Big Papi is obviously a naturally big guy. He has always had a large frame, even when he was skinny and he always had huge thighs - which is where his power comes from. When Papi was younger, he actually played in the field. Now he DHs. Thus, the gut ....
His injury is clearly from a very specific injury, that had surgery and then was reaggravated. If he was still using, that would tend to help heal the type of injury he suffered faster. Body breakdown due to prolonged steroid use tends to show up at a later age and in different ways, including internal organ and tissue trauma. There are some great articles on the web. Google is your friend.
Visually, he doesn't exhibit any of the obvious visual clues that he might be a 'roid user. I'm not saying I know for a fact that he isn't. But i (and you) have absolutely zero indications that he is or every was a user.
I agree that MLB should have chosen someone more clearly disconnected than Mitchell to compose the report. But hey - this is a league that chose a team owner (Selig) as its commish! Still, you shouldn't use the leagues PR ineptitude as a reason to cast unfounded aspersions on someone. To Mitchell's credit - the information in the report is looking more and more credible and spot on. Folks like you will harp on whether information that is absent is biased towards the Red Sox favor, but they are not the only team that was left 'unmentioned' in the report.

No way Papi is on the juice. He just doesn't have that look...he's big but not super ripped like a Giambi type. He's always been a big guy, and in fact, looks skinnier to me than he was a few years ago.
And as far as one-dimentional goes...who cares? He's a slugger, he's there to bash the ball out of the park as many times as possible. I guess Mariano Rivera is a one dimentional player because all he does is save games? I don't get that point at all.
But hey, we do agree on something...MANNY RULES.
