Just because there wasn't any new stuff discovered doesn't mean the old stuff gets erased... besides.. there were like 8 new videos showing just how often they did cheat.
The eight videos are of actions that were already known about. Belichick admitted they'd been taping since 2000. These tapes just disclose who the teams were.
As for the smoking gun, Matt Walsh and his attorney never denied he had it, they just never said they didn't. Most took this silence as confirmation he did have it.
Here's what the president of the Rams had to say. As far as most were concerned, the only thing everyone was waiting for was this supposed tape of the Rams' walkthrough before the Super Bowl. It would have been the only "new" violation that was deemed to be punishable:
Rams President John Shaw said he was not surprised that there was no tape of his team.
"We were led to believe that he did not have a tape of us and that was the case," Shaw said late Wednesday by phone. "I had spoken to the commissioner and there was absolutely no confirmation of Walsh having a tape."
Asked if this closed the Spygate chapter as far as the Rams are concerned, Shaw said, "I felt it had already been closed, but I guess that this confirms that."
