This is not an NHL thread, sorry. This is a "secret" NBA playoff thread for the real posters of the NBA board. The point of this thread is for posters with demonstrated knowledge to be able to talk with each other about the finer points of NBA basketball without having to worry about accussations of Homerism, or hearing about Lebron v. Kobe v. Jordan or any of that other crap. The thread is open and hopefully will address many topics.

I apologize if I forgot anyone who is now here, but I sent out like 20 personal invitations and got a little lost on who I had told and whatnot. Just to get the conversation rolling, what do you think that the keys to the Spurs/Hornets series are?

Thanks for the invite Pete...
You screwed up tho on the pm to me and it is out there for the public to see...
New Orleans are a real deal championship contending team. I think they should target Igoudala in the off season (if they can afford him). Getting AI there will make them an elite team for several years to come.

The Spurs need to quit playing Duncan at the 5. He's getting bullied around because he's the only low post threat on the floor for most of the game.

The Spurs need to Try and utilize Oberto more in the offense.

The problem with Oberta is his stone hands. And since the Spurs do so much off of Parker's driving, a guy like Oberta has to be able to make some tough catches and finish. He's a good finisher but he just can't make the passes. And I just don't think you can run too many offensive sets through Oberta.

Oberta, hahaha funny.
He atleast as to make himself a presense in the paint......As well as Thomas. If they can't......Then Ginobili, Finley, and Bowen better make their three pt shots because Tim Duncan will probably see double teams the rest of the series.

Lakers/Hornets would be a great Western Conference series.
Great matchups across the board.

I don't know, GoH, how do the Hornets win a championship? Other than Chris Paul is really good? As a fan, who is their real x-factor. For example, as a Lakers fan when Derek Fisher makes his first shot - we've won the game. he is the streakiest damn shooter I have ever seen - he either shoots 80%+ for a game, or won't hit a shot. Fish is the x-factor for the Lakers, in my opinion.

I agree Vik. Orlando has by far the worst backcourt of any playoff team (1-16), and Detroit has probably the best. Too big of a mismatch there. After watching game 1, (sort of watching, tough to watch while at Hooters!) I think Detroit will win in 5.

Hey all. There has been a lot of talk about how Orlando matches up poorly with Detroit. I think there are several things Orlando has to do to stay competitive in this series.
1. Exploit Nelson's athleticism. Jameer Nelson is a young, inconsistent, and athletic point guard. Orlando will not win this matchup but it can try to reduce the damage caused here by using Nelson's athleticism, speed, and range to force the older and bigger Billups out of his comfort zone and try to wear him down. He also needs to cut down on his mental mistakes in general and turnovers in particular.
2. Give Detroit a heavy dose of Kenyon Dooling. Dooling is nothing spectacular, and the casual NBA fan probably doesn't even know who he is. But I think he's one of the more underrated bench players out there. He's a solid perimeter defender and has the size and skills to match up with Billups defensively better than Nelson does. He's not a true PG and the team has been using him like one, which could be a problem, but Van Gundy should exploit his defensive capabilities and use him on Billups whenever possible.
3. Bread and Butter-get the ball to Dwight. People have been talking how successful Detroit was at containing Dwight in game 1. The Pistons used all four bigs-Dice, Ratliff, Rasheed, and Maxiell on him. Dwight needs to exploit the size and strength advantage he has over Detroit's bigs. He needs to muscle his way to the rim and play more aggressively inside, particularly at home, where the calls will go more in his favor. If he becomes a problem, Maxiell, Ratliff, and McDysse will go Hack a Dwight on them, so, hard as this may seem, he has got to just "do it when it matters" and get more of his free throws in. Finally, if Dwight is drawing double coverage, Rashard and Turk have got to be more effective in spreading the floor along the perimeter. In fact, I'd recommend getting the distance game going more early, so that Dwight has a little more room to operate in the paint.
4. Keep the energy level high--This is just a basic strategy for a young, somewhat overmatched team against a group of experienced vets. The 76ers and Hawks did it in round one with some success and Orlando is far superior to either of those teams. The Pistons have the occasional tendency to fall asleep, and Van Gundy must ensure his team exploits this tendency to the fullest. Orlando simply cannot afford to take a play off. Thankfully for the Magic, Stan is a terrific motivator and should keep the team on its feet until the final buzzer sounds. This is particularly important at home, where Orlando's youngsters must feed off the energy of the crowd, using their athleticism and energy to counteract the Pistons' experience.
5. Stop the trash talking. It doesn't work, and as round one should have demonstrated, does little for you as an underdog. If the favorite is sleeping, let them sleep-nothing could be better for you! When you come forth and provide the other team with bulletin board material, all you do is wake them up. No matter how much Theo Ratliff annoys you, just zip the mouths. Take out the anger and frustration through actions off the court, not words off it.

Conclusion:
Everyone wants Iguodala, nobody's going to get him
I agree with you Vik. There is no way the 76ers are going to let Iggy get away, and with how well they played against the Pistons in the first round, they will be very confident next year and expect to do well again and make it to the playoffs.
Iggy will want to stay in Philly and they will make sure he stays. He will be the new AI that they can build their team around. Maybe it's because this AI actually practices.
