Marvin Lewis was a good defensive coordinator coming from the Ravens and somewhere to switching to head coach it was to much for him to handle. His discipline rules are always delayed and he has no control over his team. Chad Johnson antics of showboating and celebrating and talking constantly should have been cut out from day 1. You dont let the guy do whatever he wants and then when the team start losing tell him to stop. No coach consistently set the rules. Samething with Chris Henry situation, the Begals did nothing until the Commissioner step in and suspended him for half a season. Marvin Lewis is defensive of coach and the Bengals defense stinks. You give up over 50 points to Cleveland Browns is a disgrace. You come from an organization that is known for running the ball and pounding it between the tackles (Ravens did with Jamal Lewis). Rudi Johnson showed he can do that and you change the offense to have Rudi catch passes from Carson Palmer. That is not his strong suit. Not to mention that you give the defense no help with your quick pace offense. Sustain a drive. I swear the Bengals score in 3 plays or they go 3 and out. Marvin Lewis I'm sorry your just not a head coach and deserve to be fired for what you did to this up and coming organization. You get into cat fights with Chad Johnson and you go back in forth in interviews challenging each other authority. I think this will be your last season and I believe alot of Bengals fans will agree. Even TJ Houshmandzadeh is feuding with the Bengals. My suggestion is to call Tom Coughlin or Bill Belichek and get some advice on how to run a discipline team.

i wish we had marvin lewis.load up on talented wr's so ben could go patriot on the league 40 plus touchdowns.

he's caught up in some bad shit,i'll give you that.but......maybe just maybe he's stuck being the voice man for the front office.you know it rolls down hill.

i'm not sure he ever meant to be an air coryell---but in theory you attack the best teams greatest weakness==steeler secondary, dreadful.and untill last year ,you guys were very dangerous-would have ruined that sb run had palmer not been freakishly hurt but definately going in the right direction---what happened?could shannanigans have caused all this?

when i speak of best teams i mean division only of course.i'm not impressed with tomlins, want to trade?at least your coach doesn't look or act like a tool.

I respect Marvin Lewis as a coach, and I applaud his vigilance in attempting to uphold his principles.   That being the case...Chad "Ocho-Stinko" Johnson is currently nothing more than a friggin' waste of roster space at this point.  He wasn't even all that productive last season was he?  I'd say Lewis should let him sit his stupid, greedy @$$ out all season long and fine him for every day he misses.  Now, if another very lucrative offer gets sent Cincinnati's way, then get rid of him and reap the benefits.  There are just too many  Me, Myself, and I type players in the NFL, and they are all a friggin' vicious cancer that needs to be cut out.....attitudes like that are what makes players SUCK.  As a fellow Giants fan suggested to me yesterday, cut his @$$ loose and maybe he'll end up selling frozen meat from the back of a truck like Ickey Woods.

Tikis - I think it is very inappropriate to make disparaging remarks about Ickey Woods career or to reference his post-football career as a punchline in a joke.  His career was derailed by injuries, but he was never a negative influence to the team.  He has trouble walking due to injuries in both knees, but he makes an honest living providing for his family.  I do not think he should be ridiculed for that.  You probably think it's clever to make fun of Ickey, Mike Webster, Earl Campbell and other players who's health and lives were changed by playing football for your entertainment, but I think that is classless.  Perhaps you think it's hysterical that your boy Harry Carson suffered numerous concussions and now at the age of 54 has trouble speaking, seeing and remembering things.  Yup, that's hilarious.

The Bengals need to switch to a 3-4 defense. The 4-3 they run now doesn't work for them. In addition to that, I agree with a pervious poster they need to keep line backers on the field. Injury killed the Bengals D.  The other thing I see is they take too many shots down field. A little swing pass to the back or a slant to the slot receiver are high percentage plays. taking all those shots down field you get a couple 3 and outs your playing from behind all day. What about Billick? He's a pretty good coach. Hes had to deal with the likes of Ray Lewis and some other "personalities". I think the Bengals have the core talent. Its just finishing. Until last year Brady didnt take all those shots down field and look what it did for him. I think its the execution that needs to be addressed. Take the little plays, eat the clock up. Get your D off the field. The Bengals need more balance (run/pass).  When I moved here in 93 my old Boss and I had an anual bet , case of beer who ever had the better record- Pats or Bengals. Remember the Bruce Coslet, Dave Shula days LOL.

You're right on, Huberh3.

Never get on a man for making an honest living. Plus, from what I've heard over the years, Ickey does very well with his "selling meat out of the back of a truck".

As far as Housh being disgruntled: The interview I heard on the radio sounded like a T.J. love-fest for the Bengals organization. Sure, he could be doing it for a new contract, but he sounded as far from disgruntled as a player could be.

Hey GMen, I agree the Bengals are not a great team, but when you look at the stats Lewis has produced, they are pretty amazing.

The entire 90s decade, they Bengals' record was 52-108. While they 2000 -2002 years were worse, with 2001 and 2002 being 4-12 and 2-14 respectively. Lewis walked into this, and Willie Anderson was the only player still around from a comparatively successful season in the early nineties.

You could argue they had Carson Palmer and company after this, but they also had top rated draft picks before this during most of the eighties and nineties too which all flopped in Cincy. Lewis stepped in and the Bengals went from 2-14 the year before, to 8-8, and since that year the Bengals had one losing record, 7-9, last year, which with a few of the games they could have been won if they were luckier.

So although Lewis hasn't turned the Bengals into a SuperBowl contender, name me a coach who has taken a perennial 2-14 team and won a superbowl. He has at least made people like you and/or others "hate" the Bengals, because they are now a much better team, and can beat anybody on any given day. THAT is why Lewis shouldn't be fired, although I agree, the offense fell apart last year a little it, but a lot of that was injuries to key players, which could happen to any team.

The Bengals' D during the Marvin years was built to only slow down scoring so the Offense could just outscore teams. The emphasis on Offense came in with the huge contracts their draft picks demanded. (Palmer, Housh, Rudi, Chad) Mainly all the money was spent on the Offense and protecting the Offense.

I will digress, and just say the season records reflect what Lewis has accomplished, compared to before he arrived.

And also, I am really happy the Giants won the Superbowl, I had respect for them especially after going for the win in the "meaningless" regular season game vs the Pats.

You must not be a Bengals fan cause you have no idea what your talking about. Marvins a good coach. He's just dealing with too much bullsh*t form his player. TJ is not feuding with the Bengals. If he is, I'd like to know over what. Get your facts straight before you post. You make yourself look like an idiot!

He chooses the players that play on the field. Marvin Lewis is defensive of genious right. Lets agree with this because the Ravens had teh number 1 defense when he was they coordinator. Now lets look at the production rankings on defense with the Bengals. Rank 24th in the league with points allowed (24.1)

27th in yards allowed (348.8) (230.4 passing yards) (118.3 rushing yards)

So lets get the facts straight and see who the idiot is. This team cant stop the run or pass and thsi is why they lose.  Marvin Lewis finally admitted that he throw the ball way to much and dont control the game with a well balance attack. These are his words. How many players got arrested on teh Bengals roster yea I know alot. These players do whatever they want and there is no respect with players and coaches and everything is said through the media. He even got into I fight with Chad Johnson in halftime in playoff game. Your freaking head coach act like one. If Chad is a problem then trade him, by keeping him you saying Chad is not the problem and you need him. Let me be the first to say this that this is Marvin Lewis last year with the Bengals trust me. Here is the story about TJ being unhappy with contract.

HOUSHMANDZADEH UNHAPPY TOO?Bengals receiver Chad Johnson has made sure everyone knows in the last couple of days, he isn’t happy in Cincinnati and isn’t planning to show up to off-season workouts.wide receiver, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, also is expected to skip the start of the voluntary conditioning program. Houshmandzadeh is in the final year of four-year contract and is scheduled to make a base salary of $2.525 million, and he thinks that, coming off a season in which he tied for the league lead in receptions, he’s worth more than that.Carson Palmer
